For a while there, Pogba looked like he was one of the best in the world. Haven't seen what he's done in Serie A this year.

Pogba has struggled a bit since moving into the "playmaking" role in Juve's midfield after they sold Vidal and lost Marchisio to injury.

In general, he's been more of a ridiculous talent who draws a lot of press due to completely dominating matches here and there (and against top competition) but really hasn't been all that consistent.

Even his biggest supporters who follow Juve closely would rate him behind Marchisio and Vidal in a list of "best" midfielders though he certainly rates at the very top in the world in terms of promise.

The best (healthy) true midfielder in terms of performance Serie A right now and for a while is Miralem Pjanic then probably Allan and Naingollan.

For central attacking #10 type mids, Vasquez and Eder, in particular, have been more consistently productive than Pogba the past season and a half.

Don't get to see him often but when I do he always stands out. Love his game.

Maybe you don't count Insigne as a true midfielder, but he's been excellent as well.

Agree. Insigne has been fantastic this season.

He would be in a tight race with Pjanic for player of the season up to this juncture.

But, yeah, I wasn't really considering him as a "midfielder," especially since the comparison was thinking about players that have been a bit more productive than Pogba.

Maybe it's too personalized a preference but I find it too difficult to compare players that play wide forward attacking roles beside a striker like Insigne (or Salah or even Ronaldo or Neymar) etc etc to midfielders that have more defensive responsibility than simply tracking back on occasion to cover for a fullback.

Pjanic is as smooth in his touches, flicks, passes as guys like Ozil, Silva etc and is probably the most dangerous free kick specialist in the game right now.

However, he also covers a massive amount of ground in Garcia's 4-3-3 defensive scheme and, while not a true ball winner like a Naingollan, does have a nasty little streak for mixing it up on defense.

Vidal

I said it during off season, and going into the season, that Vidal would be greatly missed and he was never replaced.

I've said it before, but I don't get how teams would pay the €100mm price tag thrown around for Pogba... I've watched him a good bit and while he does some amazing things and he is a huge talent... He isn't worth it IMO.. At the moment, there are quite a few other MFers I would take over him

Also, I don't think the #10 role suits his skill set...

Vidal is interesting. He's probably been the worst passer in the team for most of the games he's played but he's unique because he's the only guy Bayern has that will crush you for trying to dribble through the midfield. He's basically been Lance Stephenson.

Vidal was kind of an curious buy for Bayern/Guardiola insofar as he's never been the cleanest or most accurate passer nor the most tactically astute midfielder.

His game is heat seeking missile: get the ball and attack the goal vertically as quickly as possible. Lose the ball and attack the player with it as quickly as possible. Repeat all day.

Roma's Naingollan is of a very similar mold.

Will Bayern sell him to us please?

He's weird compared to the rest of the players but it works in the squad. He's valuable because of it.

This is why United wanted him so badly.

Suarez because of his all around game.

So many damn assists. He made Daniel Sturridge seem world class in 2013/2014.

Ney has been better than Cristiano and Suarez by a wide margin this season. don't see how anyone who has watched barça since messi went down could say Suarez is better in current form.

He really has. He is playing the best right now and with Messi still out I think he is the best. Muller is ridiculously good and Ozil has been on fire with 2 goals and 10 assists. He is on track to break the EPL assist record and is the first person to have an assist in 6 straight EPL matches.

He has more goals and more assists than both. he leads la liga in dribbles and chances created. he was already the best young player in the world by a comfortable margin but he's having a breakout season, especially since Leo went down.

and while Suarez has still been productive, he's been a bit inconsistent and even clumsier than usual with his touch of late. cristiano's slump speaks for itself.

I know ney is not well liked by the American and English fans, but objectively, I don't see how you could put someone like Suarez above him. he deserves to be on the stage for the ballon d'or in January. I don't know any barça fans who would disagree.

also, the likes of pjanic, Vidal, pogba, ozil, all absolutely world class players. none are better than busquets. there, I said it.

I don't now. He is really consistent and does some head shaking things on a regular basis. It is his time. Still think Messi is the best, but Neymar's turn is coming.

agreed. it's been interesting to watch him thrive without messi. a taste of what's to come. with messi, he basically becomes a wide forward on the back side. he's incredibly good at it but seeing him in more of a free role with playmaking responsibilities against top competition has been very entertaining. he is clearly up for it. the hype is real.
