I've really enjoyed watching soccer ever since the 2006 World Cup, but I guess I've just been a casual fan. I'd like to start following a team in the EPL since some of those games come on ESPN, plus I have Fox Soccer Channel. Like the Dallas radio guy, I don't wan to root for Man U. since they're soccer's Yankees. Other teams I don't want to root for: Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City because they all seem too mainstream (I sound like a hipster).

I think I've narrowed it down to Everton or Fulham because of Tim Howard and Clint Dempsey. So I'm looking for advice on whom to follow, from the TD board which seems to have the lowest concentration of retards.

Are you a big Michael Jackson fan? Yes, Fulham. No, Everton.

ETA: Also, try watching a few of their matches before you decide. You'll latch onto a style you like.

What about Liverpool? Great club with a fantastic amount of history. Haven't won in a while, and are in the midst of a rebuilding process. They have some excellent young talent and will be exciting to watch in the next few seasons.

Both solid choices. David Moyes of Everton always gets the most out of his team. They would have finished second last year based on their form after the new year.

I would also recommend this. I narrowed mine down last season to Everton, Fulham & Tottenham Hotspur. Ultimately, I picked Spurs, but I'll still root for the other 2 teams.

Tottenham was also on my short list, although I have no idea why. I think I just like their name.

Also, I don't know much about tactics so that probably won't influence my decision very much. The draw to Fulham is that they are somewhat of an underdog, yet they don't seem to be in terrible danger of relegation, which would make it impossible for me to watch games.

I'm telling you, you should look into Liverpool.

That's not what I meant. There are certain teams that play styles that are boring to some. Ex.: Aston Villa starting this season.

'Pool is traditional top four. Top six now. Everton plays a lot of different styles which can be entertaining. They had a great record against the top six as well.

We'll see when Arsenal is on the outside looking in.

Liverpool is making all the right moves.

Seems like an easy decision

The reason for wanting to follow Liverpool, as mentioned, is that they usually finish pretty high up in the league. I'd rather root for a team that isn't quite as historically successful because I'll feel like I'm kind of growing with the team.

Another question: Do the FA Cup and Carling Cup come on TV in the US?

ETA: And what is the connection with Michael Jackson and Fulham?

They haven't won the league in 20 years.

I'm fairly confident of our ability to stay in the top four. It's all mental now, as evidenced by our meltdowns three of the last four seasons. If we keep Nasri and Fabregas, we'll be alright. Just need to stay healthy, and avoid having a meltdown against Birmingham (started our meltdowns in '08 and '11).

Should be on FSC or ESPN3. Be sure to get a program like Sopcast or Veetle to make sure you can watch the games that don't appear on FSC or ESPN.

But they seem to be pretty established. You seem a little biased in trying to push me to become a Liverpool fan.

I like Arsenal and I hope they stay in the top 4. But as a Liverpool fan, I'm trying to figure out how we are going to weasel our way up.

Man Utd is in the top 4 to stay.

Chelsea will be top 4. Torres will find some kind of form, and their defense will carry them through.

City's talent is absurd and it's hard to imagine they will drop down. Who knows though. Their goal scoring situation is in a bit of a predicament.

Arsenal I am iffy about. With the Nasri and Cesc rumors, I don't know what to think. They finished the season on a slide, and haven't made any big moves.
