I'm assuming it isn't near as many as those other tournaments.

US and Canada automatically qualified by being co-hosts. Mexico also got in automatically.
Four more qualified through the Copa Centroamericana, four qualified through the Caribbean Cup, and one qualified through a playoff between the 5th place countries of those two tournaments.

I like this argument.
It would be cool if the big Copa America next year was an every 4 year event. So, you have the World Cup, then North and South America have their individual tourneys the next year, then you have the huge Western Hemisphere tournament, then Confed. I know it will never happen, but we could potentially have a tournament to look forward to every summer.
