What you want fans to be? Designed in a fricking lab like Weird Science? Of course some will be different

I hate how Dynamo fans bring scarves to the games. It's 100 degrees outside. Only girls and hipsters own scarves here

I own a USMNT scarf that i've taken to every match I've attended in DFW lol.

I haven't ever worn it but I do hold it up and shite.

God I am a poser.

They are not really ultras for a variety of reasons

The Seattle supporters groups just rub me the wrong way the most. Everything with them seems forced and fake especially for a club as old as they are.

it gets made fun of for trying to be too European. I'm guilty of this as well. I hate how Dynamo fans bring scarves to the games. It's 100 degrees outside. Only girls and hipsters own scarves here.

Yea I don't get why mls fans love their scarfs in the middle of the summer

I would be pissed if I got to the game and giant flag guy was in front of me. That's true whether I'm in Seattle, Portland, or Munich. Giant flag is stupid, watch the game.

Atlanta's already got the best supporter group name in the game, though.

The tifos are only up during pre-match, and pretty much only in the supporter groups sections.

I just don't want my domestic league's most passionate supporters to be dykes waving rainbow flags.

Everything has already been said so I'll just say that I agree with most of it. MLS fans, for whatever reason, seem to me to be the try to hard bunch. It's like a band geek vibe or something. And I'm not trying to be disrespectful, it's just what I see.

The fan problem MLS has is essentially the same as the American player problem. I know this has historically been a weird subject to bring up around here and I don't want to hijack the thread, but IMO the best athletes we produce aren't playing soccer. When you're dealing with 3rd or 4th tier level athletes, you also get 3rd or 4th tier everything else. Coaching, $$$, officiating, and fans too. The sport is growing though at a pretty crazy rate so things should only get better. I look forward to seeing where the league and American players in general are in a decade or two.

The most authentic supporters groups in MLS seem to be the South and Central American influenced ones. D.C. , La , Houston, Orlando all have good ones and Atlanta should in due time.

NYCFC's groups are just laughable and plastic in every way. From trying to fight Red Bulls fans at every match, posting pics in nycfc gear like gang members making threats to other teams fans. Also song sheets let's not forget song sheets.

Back when the Union were formed and the sons of ben blew up all I could do was shake my head. Those dudes give west coast hipsters a run for their money.

BUT.........

I think my issue with US supporter groups is that it all feels so inorganic. For example today some of the AUFC twitter accounts I follow were talking about giving the team the "Five Stripes" nickname before they've played a regular season game. It all just feels so forced.

I'll take the forced try-hards over the dead apathy of MLS 1.0.

But getting people to the stadium isn't really an issue for most of the clubs nowadays.

It's a mixed bag. Lots of clubs with half full stadiums.

It's mostly the MLS 1.0 clubs that are dragging. Chicago, New England, DC United, FC Dallas. Big markets, but bad stadiums, or bad stadium locations. DC is at least getting a new place, which will certainly help matters. And FC Dallas has a SSS, but it feels like a minor league baseball field, and it's about 45 min out from downtown Dallas.

Sporting KC is the gold standard as far as environment, and stadium amenities. It's a beautiful park, great location, great fans. Although Orlando may give them a run this year, I think SKC has been the example that MLS is trying to promote.

Yea but D.C. despite having a shite stadium has never had an big issue with fan support. La Bara Brava is on of the OG groups and is still going strong. They are as organic and original feeling as you can find in mls.

D.C. with the new stadium is about to be reborn next year and will be a force. The way it's designed that place will be absolutely rocking and very hostile.
