Sorry, I'm a little late to the discussion, but my two cents.
It's hard for me to get too excited about Yedin just yet. Yedlin looks just like the past "new American Pele", in that they have one break out performance, and all of a sudden every news outlet is asking when is he going to Real. Klinsmann is dead on with assessment of media with young talent, and if I were him I would be worried to that one of the most promising young stars is about to hit the shite show that is Tottenham.
Don't dislike the Spurs, and not a Gooner, but I can't imagine a worst team I would want my up and cumming star player that still needs developing to be. I think every fan of USMNT should be worried about Yedlins future now, and hope his stint at Tottenham doesn't last long, or goes on loan.
He needs to develop as a RB. There seems to be a trend of players moving back and forth between the roles. It might be that teams are getting away from the traditional 4-4-2, but his limited technical abilities is more of a problem then his defensive miscues due to his recovery speed. If a player like Rafeal can play under SAF at Utd for so long, I'm very confident that some Champions League team will give him a shot, when he's more developed.
ETA: Not that I don't think Tottenham can't be a Champions League team. It's just that with the Spurs buying players has very little to do with team needs, and a lot to do with politics and shirt sales.
