Stu's not bad, his voice just isn't made for TV analysis.

Ehhh... we grew up with John Harkes bumbling his way through ESPN World Cup matches for years, Stu at least has an idea of how this works.

To be honest, I really like the John Strong/StuBear booth and they kind of ruined it with Landon, who is good, but a 3-man booth is hella crowded for soccer and Landon's voice just doesn't exude excitement.

Still love ya, Landy.

ESPN and NBC both have shown soccer broadcasts in this country can be done the right way. So many bad or annoying or unqualified commentators and analysts:

ESPN does for major tournaments but their MLS coverage is disgraceful.

A lot of people don't realize a majority of the NBC coverage isn't actually done by NBC. Its using the premier league pass coverage which is their coverage for the English speaking world outside the UK>

I think most everyone realizes that. A large part of the issue is Fox's pregame/postgame and halftime shows and their unnecessary dumbing down of broadcasts. It's ridiculous that Fox has a "rules" expert. WTF is that? And the dude doesn't bring anything to the table. None of their people bring any sort of valid soccer knowledge at all. There are no tactical discussions or relevant talk in relation to what's happening on the pitch. It's just all horseshite.

Fiore is absolutely shite. I grew up watching Univision listening to this dickhead, his schtick is old. The American audience does not respond to his retarded arse antics like a Hispanic audience would. Lalas is shite, Wynalda is DIRE. frick that dude.

With ESPN, at least we had mostly credible opinions at major tournaments such as Roberto Martinez, Ballack, and a few others I can't think of off the top of my head. shite even Twellman despite being a douche at times brings a solid understanding of tactics to the game unlike Lalas and frickboy Wynalda.

I also like Rob Stone, I like how he is a big fan of the sport but Rebecca Lowe and my boy Bob Ley are unbelievable as hosts.

ETA: WTF is up with FOX's slightly blurry HD broadcasts? The resolution is so trash. Good Lord. Their HD is always woeful. The FA Cup final looked terrible on HD compared to a regular Premier League match broadcasted on NBC or a World Cup Qualifier on ESPN. They have got to broadcast in 1080 next year at the world cup. Any more 720 and I might off myself

No, we get that.

But those who work for NBC — their announce teams and their studio crew — all do a good job. You can't say that about Fox.

My biggest gripe is when watching FoxSports GO on my FireTV I have more buffering and issues with the streams than any other app. I also hate that they don't have any replay of matches. So if I can't be sitting in front of my tv during the game I can't watch it.

ESPN and NBC Sports are both good about having match replay available and makes it so much better for these overseas tournaments.

They think if they make it as close to an NFL broadcast as possible average Joe American will tune in. It seems they are still trying to fit a soccer ball into a football shaped hole (I know terrible analogy)

yea big time

and they actually send people to matches in England for coverage. Fox would almost never do that.

bc they go cheap on the rebroadcast signal.

The difference in watching the champions league final from a BT stream on youtube and the fox2go hd stream was night and day.

Watching UCL on BT when I was living over there looked amazing. Now watching it on FS1 makes my head hurt.

Same goes for Bundesliga, they are using the same shite BT uses but their rebroadcast signal is shite. They could do better like when NBC along with DTV uses Sky or BT 4K signal for select EPL matches.

I used it on my fire tv or xbox never any real buffering issues, but the quality looks better on my iPhone 7 using the app than an XBOX

My point still stands

They don't do it for the champions league and didn't do it when they covered the epl.

A lot of the times the play by play from fox is done from LA. Stu and those guys are not in Europe calling UCL
shite they didn't even have anyone in Cardiff for the final.

The FSGO app used to be horrible for me, but over the last six months it's worked almost flawlessly for me and that's w/ me using it almost daily for the Texas Ranger baseball and the occasional soccer game.

I didn't see one match with the fox crew actually being filmed in the stadium from the gantry or pres box like NBC or espn do.

There was definitely one game where they were live from the Allianz and another from the Bernabeu.

I only know that because Stu was posting a few pics about it on Twitter.

ETA: They also did the final in Cardiff

This... Lowe and the studio crew are all really good.

Arlo has become one of my favorite PbP guys in any sports.
Le Saux and Dixon are both solid color guys.

They all far outclass about 90% of what FOX throws out there

Even so, once a year doesn't mean shite, when NBC does it almost every week.

That and 100% the budesliga matches called by fox people is done in LA.

Hell, some FS1 college football games don't even have on-site commentary teams.

Yea that's true

At least when ESPN had the champions league you know Tommy Smyth had the fasted flight in the world to get from Manchester to the EPSN zone in Baltimore in 15 mins.

One of the biggest problems with Fox's pregame and postgame coverage is that it's way too long for the content (or I guess lack of content) that is provided. ESPN's pregame was like 45 minutes tops, and it was all focused on news and tactics. It was informative and serious with a touch of fun every now and then.

Fox's coverage is more like an hour and a half of bullshite, luchador masks, and dancing around. You can tell Lalas is really frustrated sometimes.

And yeah, the picture is terrible sometimes. Reminds me of how TV used to look when I was a kid, and that's not a good thing.

I will say the Fox sideline reporter for the Mexico games (I think his name is Francisco Rivera) actually does a great job and finds useful information for the broadcasts. Way more useful than most of the analysts Fox employs. Hope he does some US broadcasts in the future.
