@GrantWahl: Official: USMNT to face Canada in friendly on Jan 29 in Houston. Not an official FIFA international date.

It will probably be a younger squad since its not an official friendly date. Lots of MLSers if I had to guess.

Twitter is saying that it'll be a "reward" camp for fringe guys who've done well this year. Also seemed to indicate that majority of guys called here won't be in the Honduras lineup

Well Alan Gordon actually wasn't on the projected roster I saw, but yes something like that.

Eh, believe it was Ives, I'll check and post it in here

Eta: he goes on to mention jones is probably 50/50 bc he'll be serving his club suspension in January and I think he just had a kid or something else that would possibly keep him out

More like a squad full of CJ Sapongs, Dax McCartys and Matt Beslers; guys with good MLS pedigree who can try to impress Klinsmann during camp.

I'm glad Klinsmann went ahead and scheduled this friendly instead of opting to completely remove it in favor of his preferred method of getting guys training stints in Europe. These January camps usually produce at least one or two guys who go on to contribute to the national team later in the year.

I'm also excited about Omar and Besler. I hope Boyd can get his first international goal too.

Unless the Austrian league has a super extended winter break, why would Boyd be on the roster for a non-FIFA sanctioned international break?

Rapid Wien doesn't play again until feb 16, so yeah it's a long cold winter in Austria

Also despite this being a second rate usmnt squad, I'm really interested to see what they can do out there. Couple different kind of players in the squad, I think it could be fun to watch

Why is this game in the middle of the week? If it isn't even an international break, why not play this game on a Saturday night? I won't be able to take the two days off it will require to go to the game.

I'm guessing this will be in BBVA Compass and not Reliant, correct? I'm excited to have the team here, but I hope it doesn't take away the chance to have one of the qualifyers here.

FUUUUUUUUUUUU. Just realized I will be in Dallas for work that night.

I asked Brian Strauss on twitter and be said that he definitely does not think it hurts chances. He said the Houston choice this time had more to do with location in relation to where most of the projected players are coming from. Rather than a "come see them now frickers cuz we aren't coming back" type of thing
