Yes you can. It's pretty easy to compartmentalize these things. Leicester earned more points and won the league, obviously. But they didn't play the best football.

Arsenal took 12 points off the top 4
Spurs took 9
LC took 8

Therefore Arsenal was the best team in the league.

did they have the most points???

then yes they played the best football.

Ok, you're just trying to be a dick about it at this point. You're smart enough to know winning games and playing stylistic, attacking football are 2 different things. Tottenham has better players and played better football than Leicester. Leicester had a magical season. Nothing more, nothing less. The most magical season in the history of the sport, as a matter of fact. This season was a bit of an anomaly, to say the least.

Except mine wasn't an obscure stat. It was an opinion based off of what I saw over the course of the entire season. And I'm right.

And Tottenham didn't have a magical season? This is one of their highest ever point totals. And again, given the fact that Tottenham were shut out in six games, were fourth in possession and still didn't score as many open play goals shows that they weren't all that stylistically pleasing, in addition to the fact they relied on athleticism rather than technique to win games. If Man City and Arsenal, teams known for their ability to be pleasing, had horrible seasons by their standards, and still scored more goals in open play than Tottenham, what does that say about the Spurs season?

You haven't used any stats. Tottenham were fifth in the league in home form, and second in the league in away form. That's obviously not best team in the league material.

Yes, mine was the obscure one

Also this whole line is one of my favorites on here:

You have to admit it's a little difficult to have an unbiased discussion on the merits of Spurs great season with a dude who has Arsenal's crest as his avatar. And I'm sick of looking at my computer screen so I'm done for the day. Later figs

This has to be a troll to play off all of the SwaggerCopter banter.

You also said some clearly insane things which were wrong. You said that Spurs lead the league in every meaningful category, which was blatantly untrue. I have no problem with Poch, I actually loved how he employed Spurs tactically, but you are arguing something insane.

I'm biased, yes, but I try very hard to be objective. I looked at the stats and they paint a more complicated picture than Spurs being the best team. A team giving up 40% of its goals in the last ten weeks of the season points to something else, namely that teams figured out how to combat Spurs positioning and create opportunities for themselves.

Regardless, point out to me where I was wrong in terms of the stats. I've said, consistently for the past two years, that the standard of play in the league has devolved considerably. That includes Arsenal, who've been piss-poor in front of goal. But looking at the stats shows that Tottenham weren't clearly the best in the league. They had a chance to be the best, and floundered badly.

Also, looking back at past champions, Spurs don't compare favorably. They didn't reach 20 wins, they didn't reach 70 goals, they were shut out six times (in comparison Chelsea was shut out twice last year and Man City were shut out three times the year before), they were tenth in conversion rate (which is surprising considering Kane's record), and they were the best in the league at getting points from losing positions, while they were third best in the league in getting points from winning positions.

Again, point out where the stats are wrong.

Who was better? I'm not talking where they finished in the table. Spurs played the best football in the league this season, start to finish. I'm not the only person that thinks this.

yeah countless managers have secretly said they were the best

He's Milner without the ability to contribute out wide. In a small team he looks great but in a large team he was outperformed by the Fernandos. Delph is average, in pretty much every way. He's prone to Hollywood balls as well, which is annoying.

Couldn't have said it better. Delph was insurance if anyone got hurt more than anything.

Dier and Alli just finished a season's worth of starting games for probably the best team in the Premier League.

It just dawned on me you were the guy on here before the WC talking about how good Chandler is, then got all defensive when people told you that you were wrong...

Now you are going on about an almost 27 year old Delph is a very good player but just needs a break out season.

Your opinion is invalid.

Maybe so bud. Lucky for me I guess that I don't care if you value my opinion. I come here to kill time reading threads and occasionally chime in for a little friendly banter. And I try to be respectful and cool to everyone. You come here for different reasons it seems. No matter the subject, your posts are littered with pretentious, know it all bullshite. You're the embodiment of the obnoxious American soccer fan that everyone hates. But it's ok. It seems like a lot of your self worth comes from what you think your place is here. You're like the fricking hall monitor of the soccer board dude. But it seems like that's what you're going for, so carry on dipshit.

You are that type of person who even though everyone tells you are wrong you still think you are right.

Sorry my and others knowledge of the game makes you feel lost

As for respectful you would come on here and be everything other than respectful. Well maybe you turned a new leaf

Not lost. I'm right sometimes, wrong others. I never played soccer growing up, just baseball and football through college. I didn't get into soccer until after I graduated, but I love the game and I'm learning more about it all the time. Maybe I should try to be more like you. I'll start by talking down to everyone and using words like pitch and gaffer. Any more pointers?
