Honestly why would Villa want a single one of those players? This is why I initially laughed at Tiny Tots going for him. Levy and Lerner are set up to fail in negotiations.

The price is £25m and no less. When Lerner says that, he means that.

The problem for Villa (and Benteke for that matter) is that the two clubs who are most interested in their player (Tottenham and Arsenal) are two of the worst clubs to negotiate with in the Prem.

Maybe one will splurge, but both will have to shatter their transfer records to get him.

I know Liverpool probably isn't on Benteke's list, but they are a club who have negotiated with Villa in the past and one who doesn't mind overpaying to get the player they want.

True, but Arsenal is flashing a bit more cash these days. They need a young, elite striker so I bet Wenger pulls the trigger.

Well we haven't actually spent the cash this summer. At least not yet.

I really wish we would go in for Benteke. I would rather him over Higuain.

I said flashing it.

But there's no doubt they're spending a bit this time around.

what makes you say we're interested in him? I don't think we are. obviously, take what AW says with a grain of salt, but his prior comments about CB was that we scouted him and were surprised he went to Villa at that price. would seem to indicate we were aware of him/his value, and looked elsewhere.

I don't suppose anyone will agree with me, but it doesn't seem worth it to pay that much for him when we have Giroud (and Sanogo coming up, I suppose, but that less so). stylistically, they're similar in that neither are great goal-scorers, but excel at holding the ball up and getting teammates involved. I remember Lambert was getting blasted in British press early because of CB's lack of goal scoring when DARREN BENT BRITISH POACHER EXTRAORDINAIRE was sitting on the bench. he eventually banged in more goals, both overall and compared to Giroud, but I'm not sure he's someone who will consistently be a prolific goal scorer.

tl;dr he and giroud overlap talent-wise too much, I still have faith in giroud, would prefer we pick up a more complimentary striker option

I probably should have said "most likely interested in him." Obviously Arsenal are in the market for a striker. Benteke has at least shown that he is Premier League quality, and is about the same price as Higuain. He would fit in well with Arsenal's style as well.

watching Adebayor go off for a year has me wary of one year scoring efforts, though Benteke offers more than that. I know you hate the OG but I think he'll be better this year. wouldn't be displeased if we got him, just guessing why we wouldn't pursue him. if we didn't think he was worth it last year for 7m or whatever it was, not sure his year last year, regardless of how impressive it was, would cause stubborn AW to more than triple his valuation.

I do think Benteke has the bottle to play at Arsenal though.

I wish I knew how to make gifs, I would so do one in the 'deal with it' mold except a bottle would fall out of the sky into whatever players mouth, then the words "He's got it" fall after.

Giroud is what he is, a rich man's Bendtner/Chamakh. Benteke is the same style of player, tall, target striker good enough on the ball to get the midfield involved, but CB has the higher upside. That said, Giroud was pretty excellent in his build up play all year, and his intelligent movement made up for the fact he is slow as shite. He's also willing to close players down and run all day off the ball. I just wish he was a better finisher.

I doubt we go after Benteke because he would be a luxury signing given our squad. It'd be nice to have him though.

Stupid arse should have stayed put, he'd have started every game, supported Dimitar Berbatov, and be a total legend. But no. He left for Champions' League football. How'd that work out?

I think CD's biggest problem is that he doesn't seem to have a set role. He's like a deep lying poacher who's good at a lot of things, but not superb in one. He's a bit of a luxury player as well in my view, though he does get results, as he has a great sense of positioning and timing on late runs.

I feel like Mark Hughes might make a bid. I don't see any big team making a move for him though.

I really wouldn't hate him being paired with Jozy but that's got to be a US fan's pipe dream at this point. Sunderland have already bought like 8 players this off-season, I can't see them buying many more.

Dempsey at Stoke. I think the SB would implode.
