Um noooo

He had his chance to prove himself and decided to move to MLS to tear up inferior competition while getting paid way over his market value.

He was average in Italy and wouldn't be any better in England.

A couple years ago I thought it was common knowledge that MLS was on par with the Championship, with the best team in any given season able to survive the Premier League...

And MLS has only gotten stronger since then so...

I'll just say that Chris McCann, who has 278 Championship appearances, can barely get playing time with AUFC.

MLS isn't even on level with Liga MX yet. Once that happens, then let's have this discussion. But until that happens, and until player minimum salaries in MLS come up, this whole conversation is stupid.

And I consider myself a big MLS guy.

Agreed. Let's worry about winning a CONCACAF Champions League.

Unlike a European league, we can accurately compare MLS to Liga MX, and we're still well behind them, for sure. I think we have a higher ceiling than the Liga MX, but it'll take us a while to get there.

Can we? The knockout rounds are when Liga MX is midseason, and MLS season is just getting started or still in preseason.

Oh I know, it's not completely fair. I wish it were. I really want us to win CCL, as it would be huge for the league.

But the big clubs in Mexico- Chivas, America, Tigres, etc.- have a way bigger budget than any MLS team. Even Toronto would find it hard to consistently hang with those teams. Hopefully, the salary cap and DP limit will grow as the league continues to improve. I think we'll see MLS surpass Liga MX in my lifetime. You can already see the signs of the future with Mexican players like Vela and the Dos Santos bros choosing to play in MLS over Liga MX.
