re: AS Roma 2013-14 / Serie A Thread

Maybe I'm misunderstanding your point, but why is Roma's success this season a bad sign? Lamela was not Roma's best player, however Spurs and arguably Everton lost their best player and are having lots of early success. Do you think that reflects poorly on Bale and Fellaini? Dortmund has been enjoying life without Götze too.

I don't follow Serie A, but did Roma add a bunch of players this window?

Tottenham's success is directly correlated with all of the players that came in with the Bale money.

Yes, they added a few very good players.

We brought in a handful of players in positions of need that have all been difference makers so far. There's the brief list in the OP of this thread.

Most of Roma's improvement has been the difference Rudi Garcia has made as manager. We've performed a well below our potential for the quality on the roster for 3 seasons and mainly due to turnovers at manager where every new manager had a rigid system.

If I were a Spurs fan, I'd be happy to get Lamela. Like I said, I would have loved it if Roma had the money to keep him as a spot starter/sub and give him more time to develop.
The problem is that he's really raw in terms of reading the game. Replacing him with 2 more mentally mature/attuned players has made a huge difference but it hardly means he won't blossom into a superstar in time.

The haul Tottenham got for Bale was amazing. He's a good player but not nearly that good. That deal may go down as one of the most legendarily lopsided deals in history.

3-0 at half, game over. Inter has no answer for Roma's counters.

Zonal Marking has a write up of the Inter-AS Roma match. Always a treat.

Inter 0-3 Roma: Totti drags Inter’s back three out of shape to prompt quick attacks

Yeah, losing Totti for any extended period would be tough but fortunately the midfield is creating enough chances to get by with him rested for some matches. Pjanic stepping up in directing the attack is the key if Totti is out and he seems to have taken a huge step forward in confidence this year.

De Rossi was absolutely superb today. The midfield may not be deep but De Rossi, Pjanic and Strootman could well be as good as any starting three anywhere.

Really a great result today. Even though it wasn't always the beautiful football we've been playing recently, Napoli are a very good side and we dealt with both Totti and Gervinho going down with injuries.

That our midfield picked up the slack from Totti and we defended well when Napoli threw everyone forward trying to equalize and still seemed the more likely score on a counter is another sign of this team excelling in the exact situations where we crumbled the past couple of years.

Roma stay perfect after going down to 10 men in what is arguably one of the toughest away fixtures in Serie A. Bradley with the winning goal was a great combination between the midfield and I think it was Marquinho's run that took every defender with him opening up the space for a shot.

With the schedule getting a little easier, this run could continue.

What an amazing comeback for Micheal! Roma had gone down to 10 men after a Maicon second yellow. Udinese hadn't lost a home match in over a year so there was little hope for extending the record winning streak to nine matches before this!

That call above is from Carlo Zampa, Roma's legendary play by play man. Video with his call isn't posted yet. Here's the only video I've seen posted so far.

Bradley winner against Udinese

What a cool finish from Lex and great buildup. Bradley actually started the move with the first pass to De Rossi in Roma's half before De Rossi's long ball found Strootman and Bradley arrived from 60 yards away for that finish.
