Exactly, we are not spending. Arsene has spoke about FFP but they won't ban anyone from champions league. City is double over the limit and nothing will happen. They make too much money on TV contracts to water down the CL. So other teams will keep spending and Arsenal won't. My whole argument is we won't spend enough to bring in a pogba type player, who will cost more than ozil. So we won't spend the money on a sure fire striker. So why not spread it around?

no one is sure fire but there are a handful of strikers available. mandzukic, balotelli, el shaarway, drmic (though leverkusen have been linked lately), remy, jackson martinez, rodrigo, lukaku, costa etc could be available. benz and cavani may be available depending on the transfer carousel sure to occur this summer. we could afford to bring in any of those.

i think part of that is AW being coy, but i do think we'll buy less than the 5 or 6 players we need to really contend. consistently and stability is fine, but if you don't have near the talent of who you are competing with, it isn't going to help much. there's a reason we got our asses kicked regularly by top competition this season. if we hold onto poldi and tv5, then we need 3 players (ST, CM, RB). that's the bare minimum.

I think a large part of those blowouts were flukey though. We did get results against everyone of those teams at home.

mandzukic

I truly hope so, but only for the right price.

balotelli, el shaarway,

Hell no. For different reasons, love Balo's talent and hate his personality. Would not want in our lockeroom. El Shaarway is too small. With our play style we need someone big to hold up play.

drmic, rodrigo

Don't know enough about them.

remy

see El Shaarway, though if we played two strikers I think Loic Remy would be great paired with Giroud.

too expensive, not a chance.

I'll take Drmic, but if he's unavailable I'll take Remy (who was at our game today, btw).

Also, I'm just going to post this here. Thank god these guys came to Arsenal and had their hair saved from these abominable styles.

I wouldn't really want to drop the coin required to bring in Mandzukic. He's a bit of the same playing type as Giroud, I don't think he would be that huge of an upgrade. I would be fine with Drmic but we couldn't expect him to come right in and score 25 goals, he wouldn't even start imo. However for Drmic's price he will push Giroud and be a great second choice.

In my deluded fantasies Suarez goes to Real and Arsenal in turn can snag Benzema. There doesn't really look to be many game changing strikers in the summer, especially at a reasonable price. I think Balotelli could cost <30 million but he's a huge question mark and could be just the striker Aresnal need or would pull his typical antics and be a huge cancer. I wouldn't mind that risk.

Remy isn't small. He's six foot. You don't need a big player to hold up the ball. See Falcao. Regardless I don't want him.

Why not? Only an 8 million pound release clause and allows us to focus on other, greater needs while giving Giroud much needed backup. Also, he's better at running directly at goal than Giroud.

If he's back up for Giroud fine, but I'd rather someone better. He's a fine player, but I think we should be aiming higher if we are actually going to win the CL and the PL.

I actually think Giroud's hair looks more ridiculous now. I know it's the style now, but I just think the 'do he and Aguero sport looks goofy and lopsided.

Soccer players always have the most ridiculous hair, don't see it stopping anytime soon.

Too bad Chelsea didn't lose today, that would've gave us a shot at 3rd.

I would be fine with remy. We need defense bad. Moneral is ok, Gibbs looks great at times but is injury prone. We will be going into next season with only two players on the backline I'm comfortable with. That has me more worried than a St.

If we keep all our current defenders minus baccary and then bring in a new RB there is no reason to be concerned with the backline. Although I would like a young up and coming CB for the 4th spot.

Also if we can't get someone like dzeko or benzema I'd be fine with bringing in Remy (don't know enough about drmic to comment)

i wonder if the Vela rumors are true.

I just don't see vermaelen staying. Which in turn would mean we need 2 CBS.

seems unlikely to me too. we will need 2 CBs if he goes because I'm almost positive we didn't carry a 4th CB this year bc of Baccy. Djourou comes back from loan, but surely he's gone. Miquel isn't good enough. No one from our reserve team is any good, though Pleuguezlo is fairly highly regarded.

if we whiff on our top targets, i'd be alright with Remy. he isn't great, but i have a feeling he'd be a 15-20 goal a year guy playing with ozil, ramsey, santi, theo, etc.

Djourou is already gone. He signed with Hamburg on April 2nd.

My thoughts on sag a leaving is we need 2 players to replace him. One to play rb and one to cover cb.
