Ramsey may be enough to win the fa cup. But vermalaen and moneral were awful, sure they can put in a good performance, but play like that and we will lose to most bpl sides.

I was just giving vermalaen praise and he showed why I have no idea how he is or ever was captain. He was out of position and couldn't even get the back four straight let alone the team. I'm just glad we have Newcastle at home, they have enough skill to punish us if we play like that.

Akpom and Zelalem are both not in the U21 side today vs Man City's U21s. neither are injured that i know of. perhaps they make the bench Saturday. would be so Wenger to middle finger everyone by throwing in some youngsters in a cup contest.

some really positive santi quotes for you, this morning

At least he uses "we" with everything he says and doesn't distance himself from the rest of the squad. There isn't one member of the squad at the moment who is faultless with what has gone on since the loss to Stoke City. It really is remarkable just how quickly the season has unraveled over the past three weeks or so.

It's disappointing to see players publicly talking about moving on in the future, even if Santi also qualifies it by saying he's happy with his contract extension and will reevaluate his place at Arsenal after the next two years are over.

It's about time for Wenger, or whoever else is in charge for next season, to be more ruthless in the summer and get rid of any player that is holding us back from being truly elite. Go out and do the business that is necessary to get us in contention to win the Premier League and Champions League, not just make an FA Cup run.

Get rid of the players that can't seem to cut it and take us to that level (Arteta, Podolski, Giroud, etc.) and bring in world-class talent we need at every position to cure our "winning mentality" problem that Santi is talking about. I appreciate what those players have done for the club over the past couple of seasons to get us to where we are now, but there is no more time for emotions when considering who should be in our squad for next season.

Arteta

i think lots of people will be surprised when Arteta "suddenly regains his form" over the last few matches with the return of Ramsey. that pairing was crucial to our 2013 success. i agree his time at Arsenal is nearing an end, but his recent "struggles" have been more a result of our tactics, largely forced upon us by injury, than anything else. bring in a top notch DM and smoothly transition from Arteta-Ramsey to new guy-Ramsey. then Arteta will be out of contract and can go kick arse for NYRB or some shite like that.

unless he's going to the segunda division, he's probably not going to get his wish. don't think Real or Barca will want him in two years.

Who said anything about Real or Barca? Santi has played with other teams in La Liga, and I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing that again.

Ah, good point. Two team league. Good luck with that, Santi.

the quotes, if true and not some sort of second-language misuse, are pretty sad and kinda appalling. they should have that mentality regardless of who we do/don't sign. now, big signings aid in following through with that mentality, but the idea we need to spend more so that the current players can improve their mindset seems very off to me.

Atleti would dispute that at the moment...

it's going to be impossible for them to consistently mount a challenge, especially considering many of their top players are likely to get sold off this summer (Costa, Koke, etc).

Simeone is a damn good coach. That first 11 is as good as any in the world. It's not like they won't be able to find replacements. If Simeone stays they will compete every couple of years, but that's a big if. And by the time Santi is done with his contract he'll be 32. I'm not worried about him looking past that time, since we treat over 30 players not named Rosicky pretty poorly.

I think you're underestimating the pull Simone has over some of the players, Koke especially. The great thing too is that his system doesn't depend on a single, or even multiple great players. Falcao left and everyone thought the run was over, but they just raised their level even higher.

Simone is up there with Klopp as far as I'm concerned. He is the key to their success and as long as he is there, I see them competing.

I'd love to get Simeone. Athleti is well organized but they can still pass most teams off the park. Really enjoy watching that team play.

true. and i don't disagree he's a damn good coach, but that club isn't in great shape at all, financially ( LINK). i just don't think they can compete consistently, even with Simeone, because of that massive gap.

true, i'm not worried about santi in two years. i have to think Rosicky's long-term injury, which means he has significantly less mileage on his legs, is the only reason we treated him so nicely. kinda wish we hadn't, but hopefully, Wenger (or whoever replaces him) will utilize him as the super-sub and occasional starter that he is.
