I agree on Wilshere. I generally am not as high on him as others for a number of reasons. I think he hits the deck way too much, which disrupts the flow of attack, and he favors his left a lot. But the incisive runs be makes and spark he clearly provides more than compensate for that. While he probably shouldn't be in our best XI at this point, he is extremely valuable. I hope he can get back to form.

I thought Saturday was easily his best performance at LW.

Without injuries the present team looks good. Genuine title contender IMO.
I think this is the best starting linup with no injuries.

arteta over flamini, but besides that i don't disagree.

So Diaby has refused to collect any salary until he get's healthy again.

hopefully he's been saving well and investing properly. 27 is a really young age to retire at, but that's noble of him

Diaby has a biomechanical problem.
In his words, "I’ve had three operations on the ankle during my career. After that, my body was totally unbalanced between my left and right leg. One leg compensated for the weakness of the other – and to put back in its place is not easy."
Should be tough for him to compete with others in the squad even he is fit and healthy.

if we're still in multiple competitions, would be a pretty nice luxury to have a fit Diaby playing once every four matches. especially since he's set to be fit around the holiday fixture bonanza. not that i'm getting my hopes up, i just don't think the guy has the body to play 30+ matches a year. would be a fantastic rotation piece. damn shame, because he's so talented. i really hope he can stay healthy for a little bit. i feel really bad for him.

I think you've got me confused with someone else, I've never been to Finn's...
I guess so. I know he is an Auburn fan, and has it in his username.
Sorry about the mix up. To both of you.
No biggee, I just did a double take while scrolling through this thread at seeing my name haha. Would love to make it to Finn's for a match, seems like ya'll have a lot of fun.

I'm still shocked he actually plays for Arsenal.
Ditto.
Pretty pleased to see Ramsey put it all together this season as well. Just wish we had someone truly lethal up to, Giroud is serviceable and makes good passes I just would love a 30 goal kind of guy.

It would be nice, just not sure we need one. The goals can come from almost any player, once we get healthy. Cazorla, Giroud, Ozil and Ramsey all can play excellent final balls. And they all could be 10+ goal scores along with a healthy Walcott and even Podolski.

We really need Walcott to find his goal scoring form. He will, and already has, get plenty of great looks.
I don't know about putting Podolski out there over Cazorla, or any of our other Midfielders, and I certainly don't like him up top, but the guy does put up stats. He missed quite a bit last season, and already a good bit this season but he gets assists and goals when he plays.

Me either, just nice to have some quality depth and an option for a sub that can impact the outcome of a match.
re: Arsenal 2013/2014 Season Long ThreadPosted by Stewie Griffin on 10/1/13 at 8:54 am to ATLienTiger
Just finished my day or two late watch of the match.
Good to see Serge gain some confidence, and he played well (and his defensive work rate is phenomenal), but we really miss having someone making runs behind the defense.
We had Wilshere, Ozil, and Serge all trying to get in and play like No. 10s with the ball at their feet. It gets too congested, and allows teams to play high lines against us. I think that's why Swansea had so much of the ball.
That said, we showed we can counter. Both goals were wonderful and sprung by great balls from Ozil, and the second was just a gorgeous counter.
I still want to see our D get a damn clean sheet. Scezney was excellent, I thought, besides the one gaffe he always seems prone to.

Any guesses as to what our starting lineup will look like today?

certainly part of it, though i think Flamini over Arteta is another big part of it.
i think Serge's runs have become a little underrated on this board. he certainly doesn't act like Theo out there, whose runs have been really important for us, but he does try to get in behind more than Poldi, Ox, Santi or Jack play winger. Certainly could improve in that area though, and needs to to maintain our balance. He's made nice runs in behind though, including on his goal. His initial run wasn't spotted, but he got himself back onsides in time for Rambo's delivery.

yeah, the goals we've allowed this year have just been weird. would like to get one as well. still, was really impressed with how toothless Swansea looked, wrt goal scoring opps, against us considering some of their success against us last season.
as for today's lineup, i guess there's only three real questions: is Serge on our CL roster? Will Arteta start? How fit is Rosicky?
i can't imagine Wenger throwing an oft-injured player like Rosicky right back into the frying pan after coming back from an extended injury.
