Is the we love you chant the same as the one palace fans do? Because it sounds pretty awesome there.

I also really like the I Believe chant. They could be saying "I like cheese that we can lend", and it would still be cool seeing the whole stadium jumping up and down chanting.
It's hard to get everyone jumping around when the chant sucks. It should draw people in and make them want to participate. Not just because other super-fans are doing it, but because they genuinely like the chant. When people start the "I believe" chant, I can't help but roll my eyes at how terrible it is.

If the time is taken to develop player chants and chants against teams like Mexico than it changes the game. It's completely different with English clubs. The Suarez, Torres and even some of the ManC chants mocking Gerrard are legendary.
It's just not possible. You guys do realize that the English chants are developed by guys that get to see 20 or so games a year in the same stadium. They also all mostly live in that town. It can't be done in a country as big as this where each stadium may get 1-2 games a year. The chants have to be simple or else they won't be chanted. I'd rather lame chants that are loud than 100 or so AOs making cool chants that only they can hear.

It's not that hard to organize them. When they're that good they catch on quick.
The Torres and Suarez songs were getting sung in Indonesia and Australia thousands of miles away.
The real problem is a lot of the outlaws are pretty dorky and just generally not the type that would come up with those kind of catchy chants. No offense, just my two cents from the AOs that I have met/been around.

It takes a certain amount of cynicism and skepticism to truly develop a good chant.
Maybe it just isn't in our nature. It's in spades with the average English fan. Or it used to be at least before massive ticket price hikes.
SCH can probably comment much better than I can.

That is a good point about the Indonesia thing, but another thing club teams have going for them is constant players and exposure. I watch the USMNT every time they are on tv, but there are still times when a player gets the start and I have to look up who the hell that person is. That is just our team. We play in a region where most people probably couldn't name 1 player on 95% of the rosters.
I think the problem is we are comparing the AOs to club ultras. What are other international fan groups doing?

Good point. But USMNT is kinda club oriented in a weird way. At least way moreso than England where most fans just laugh at them and watch it for fun.
Another take I would like to hear is SCHs opinion on that as well.

This reminds me of the people leading chants in the student section at the LSU basketball games. They came up with some really terrible chants.
The "I believe" chant started with navy football, I'm surprised some of you were unaware of that. The chant isn't nearly as bad as some of you are making it sound, but it should have only been used for the WC. It feels overwrought to use it now, especially against haiti and whatnot. It did get the blood flowing against ghana, portugal, etc.

ESPN did a big special on the whole thing. Guess it wasn't as big as I thought.

Unless there's a live sporting event on, I try to avoid ESPN.

Perfect comparison. Even the Arkansas bball section. We all know the types that actually show up early enough to get those first few rows seats. They're future outlaws.

I've been to EPL and Bundesliga matches and they are far superior to the American sports experience.

´outlaw´ is very, very ridiculous

I kinda agree.
The whole thing was doomed to failure with the painted drums and abe lincoln hats and shite.
The Eagle is funny but when its just clown stuff, I can't take it seriously.
"nice" patriotic isn't funny and doesn't fit well with soccer. It needs to lean much more towards the america frick yea, patrick swayze fist pumping patriotism.

LSU has one when the opposing team fouls that is just horrible. "You, you, you, you, you what are you doing? AHHHHH!" The chants were a major negative to the atmosphere.

I'm happy that the team has a loyal following that is willing to be loud and cheer the guys on, however I find most of what the AO do to be just annoying and dorky.
The bandana over the face just looks dumb, and a majority of the AO appear to be fat guys with beards. Way too many of them wear sleeveless shirts, too.
I've always enjoyed loud drum beats coming from the stands during games. Would be cool if the AO just stuck to that, and cooled it with the same chants every 5 minutes.

We will never have true ultra culture in the MLS or with the national team and that's fine. We don't need Americans tearing up towns and and pubs around the country or at the World Cup

Well we all know that shite wouldn't fly here anyway.
They'd all get shot really really quick.
