A newb's take on the BPL
Posted on 3/20/16 at 12:25 am

Let me start by saying that I'm a World Cup fan that never was very interested in the BPL until this year. I think Messi is the best player in the world. Germany is my favorite national team outside the US, so naturally I'm a Bayern Munich fan.
I'm looking for a BPL team to really get behind but I'm torn. Can any of you help shift me towards your team or at least away from a dumpster fire?
Liverpool - I like that they hate Man Utd, but I like Everton.
Arsenal - Like the fan base. Özil Giroud
Manchester United - No Beckham, no care. Seem like the Yankees. Schweinstieger and Rooney
Chelsea - like Terry, but hate Costa. Strikes me as a team of mercs more than other teams do. I'm okay with Russian oil money backing them. The hate I've seen against them pales only when compared to Man Utd
Tottenham Hotspur - Kane is awesome. That's all I know about them.
Manchester City - A nicer Chelsea? Hart
Norwich - likable losers? O'Neil
Sunderland - Yedlin, I guess. Yedlin
West Ham - No bubbles, please. I still am trying to figure out how anyone could buy Elijah Wood as a street brawler. I don't need that kind of confusion in my fandom.
Everton - looks like Tim Howard is losing his starting spot? That hurts my like for them. I do like the attacking style but very inconsistent. I also don't hate Liverpool.
Leicester - Who doesn't love a Cinderella story? Their bumbling manager cracks me up. Okazaki's bicycle kicks and Albrighton's crosses
Stoke - scrappy candy canes with man-buns
Crystal Palace - don't know anything about them. I can't cheer for a palace
Swansea - nice logo I guess?
Newcastle - Brown ale or that team with the mega-ginger? I prefer the ale
Aston Villa/Bournemouth/Watford/West Brom - boring

If you have NBCSports I would recommend watching a bunch of games. You will be drawn toward somebody. If it's Aston Villa, great/I'm sorry for your loss. If it's Man City, fantastic. If it's Arsenal, that's fine. Just watch a bunch, and you'll find somebody eventually.

If Messi or Müller would transfer to a premier league team, it would make this a lot easier

Fox airs every Bundisliga match, you can watch Muller all you want.
Also. most Barca matches are on BeinSport so you can see Messi that way.

If Muller is your type of player a team of first rate pussies like Arsenal would probably suit you best.

Don't get too attached. He's only on loan.

I agree with your Elijah Wood take. He looks more like a Gunner than a Hammer. Definitely a Rent Boy though.

How is Manchester United and the Yankees not a reasonable comparison?

You could easily call Liverpool the yankees if that was the case
Just look at the clubs history its nothing like the yankees.
If City or Chelsea become insanely successful they would be the yankees.
But comparing soccer clubs to american sports franchise for the most part just doesn't work.

Lol, the Yankees have historic championships, all-time great players, and decades of world class branding. The Yankees have long time success. Chelsea or City will never be a logical comparison. The fact that Man U is one of the most popular clubs in the world and the most popular in the Premier League is why the Yankees comp exists.

then you could say the same about Liverpool.

Yes bc they have the most money like the Yankees and can just spend and never worry about turning a profit.

its a stupid and lazy comparison
United from the 50's has stuck to their blue print for the most which is nothing like the Yankees when it comes to building teams.

I didn't know human beings were capable of liking Terry.

Both are tremendous counts

LOL, you are so fricking clueless on this it is unreal.
For the majority of the history of the Yankees and baseball, free agency did not exist. They had to build from within. Their scouting and development led to many of the Yankee legends.
You love to fap about the class of 92, right? What about Jeter, Rivera, Pettitte, and Posada that came up through the farm in the mid 90's?
The Yankees have actually re-adjusted their strategy since Steinbrenner died and have been a lot more frugal. There have been some mega-deals like Alex Rodriguez, but let's not forget that United has bought players in recent years as well.
If you want to compare City or Chelsea to someone, then use the LA Dodgers. Their payroll is way larger and they have no baseball operations budget. The Yankees have become much more frugal and building with their own prospects like Luis Severino and Aaron Judge. They bought zero players this year in free agency.
Also, you have to remember that there is no draft in European soccer that spreads out talent. You can poach players young, which you cannot do in baseball with domestic players.
Of course, there is no perfect comparison, but Yankees = Manchester United. Look at the non-soccer fan, such as my dad. To him, Liverpool is where The Beatles came from. Manchester United is the club with Rooney. He knows Ronaldo, Messi, and Rooney (and the occasional American like Tim Howard) and their clubs. He only found about Liverpool because his best work is from there and is a big Pool fan.
It is actually kind of crazy how similar the two teams are, and you are dumb as frick if you cannot see some similarities.

Liverpool is a hardworking town, labour party stronghold. Doesn't compare to NYC and its fair-weather fans like Poonited does. Sorry you're a supporter.

yeah but it's like the joke manu fans have about them: this isn't the 70s anymore
liverpool doesn't have the fame, desired location, or funds as manu, which is why manu is a better example
