I'm playing intramural soccer and my teams first game was last week. We won 1-0, but had about 70% possession and probably 2-3 scoring chances. We're pretty good, but couldn't get anything going and couldn't create any space. I'm not a fan of the field dimensions, 80 yards long by 40 yards wide(the width of the 18 box). We tried 2(defenders)-2(midfielders)-1(AM)-2;2-2-3, and tried everything that we could think of to create space but just couldn't because the other team just bunkered 6 guys behind the ball and the field is too narrow to cross or make any real diagonal runs. Is anyone playing and does anyone have any suggestions?

Don't get caught pushing too many men forward... That's really the biggest way to get scored on. Most good teams will sit back and defend and then counter when the other team has their whole team pushed up.

If you want an extra player (if you're at lsu) Im interested. I've been looking around for an intramural team

If you have someone dangerous enough, take some longer shots. Force them to challenge the ball 20-30 yards in front of the net.

It might take a half for them to figure it out, but once they start challenging further up the field, the space behind them should open.

True, we started this in the second half, but it was too late.

We have 18 guys on our roster and 15 guys showed up last week(too many). It's a fraternity team, but I'm a senior this year so I'll be needing to find a team for next year.

I fricking hate it so much. It looks and feels so stupid. There's no offsides did you consider cherry picking?

I played 4 years of intramural with that tiny field bullshite. This is probably the only thing that actually works. If you have a guy with a rocket have him rip some from 20-25 out. It will open up the back a bit and create some through ball chances.

I hate spring intramurals. Strategy goes completely out of the window.

Kappa Sig. The field dimensions are just ridiculous. The ref's are in no way acceptable either. In the fall, we played with 1 line ref and 1 center ref, both were completely over their head and had zero soccer or referee knowledge. Last week, we had 1 ref, that stood at center field, but on the sideline, and had no clue wtf was going on. The primary center ref in the fall didn't even know how to call a corner kick and wasn't sure how many PKs are taken in a shoot out.

I remember a game against Pi Kapp where they passed the ball back to their keeper and he handled it. They tried to award us a penalty. We all laughed our asses off. I figured I'd be a good sport and explain to them what an indirect free kick is. Then they got all uppity with me and tried to tell me I was wrong. We all almost walked off the field.

It's pretty bad. The team we played last week knew what they were doing. I feel like the intramural committee at the rec has no clue about soccer. If we're going to play 8 man soccer, why not make the field 10 yards shorter and 10 yards wider? Why not just play 6 or 7 man and make it like rapid fire? At least its still soccer, and not that futsal BS that they forced on us the fall before last on the basketball courts.

Well narrowing the field instead of making it shorter and wider creates a Stoke v. Stoke type of matchup. And we all know how miserable of a game that would be to watch.

It painfully obvious that the Rec just doesn't give a shite about soccer.

Wasn't there for that, but indoor sounds pretty fun. It didn't work out?

Wait, UREC managed to frick up intramural soccer again? SHOCKER. The guy who currently runs intramurals and tournaments is an absolute dick.

This

It was on a basketball court in the rec, with the court lines being the boundary, instead of walls like normal. 5 man teams, can't shoot before crossing the center line, goals the same size that I played on when I was 9(around 6 feet hight and probably 12 feet wide) and the last defender can use his hands. It was basically rapid fire, but the courts were way too small and we used a regular size 5 soccer ball instead of a futsal ball. The ball bounced constantly and was impossible to control. The halves were 20 minutes. Everyone else on my team hated it, but maybe that's because we were much better in regular soccer.

false handballs inside the 3 point arc were counted as goals. I played and it was garbage. I think there doing 3 on 3 like that over the summer which might be pretty fun.

I tried to convince the UREC people NOT to do indoor, and they wouldn't listen. They were totally convinced that it would be the shite.

You're right. I think that we should've had last defender as goalie with the size of the goals though.

You're not a fan of Boyer? I worked as a ref for a month last semester. I thought he was pretty nice. The supervisors and other refs were retarded though. I hated working there so much.
