The best tournament in all of the land kicks off tonight with a marquee matchup, Canada vs French Guiana which I'm sure will have everyone salivating. That kicks off at 6pm on FS2, Costa Rica and Honduras follow at 8:30pm

How in the hell is that possible?

Apparently he was able to play for them in some Carribean tournament since they aren't technically a FIFA nation and are owned by France.
The way I understood it, is that he would be allowed to play in the Gold Cup since it's a CONCACAF tournament and not a FIFA one, but CONCACAF chooses to use FIFA eligibility rules and since he has played for France that makes him ineligible.

What I didn't understand about this in the story was that if that's the case, why does playing in the Gold Cup cap-tie a player if it's not FIFA-sanctioned?

I always understood it as that it's still a competitive match for a national team so it cap-ties a player.
I'm probably wrong though.

That's what I thought too, but Malouda played for French Guiana in the Carribean Cup or whatever it's called to clinch a spot in the Gold Cup.

If he plays then they forfeit and Canada gets a 3-0 win.

“The rules say he’s ineligible,” a CONCACAF spokesperson told Straus. “We are using FIFA rules, and so a player who has played in an official match for a different [national team] cannot play in the Gold Cup. More precisely, he is not eligible to play. He can play, but he’s not eligible.”
I hope he plays just so we can get some #PeakCONCACAF, plus just to say that I watched Florent Malouda in a Gold Cup.

How much does the co-manager gig for French Guiana pay?

So I just looked at the roster and Costa Rica appears to be taking this thing seriously... other than Navas, they pretty much have their A-team (Ruiz, Campbell, Oviedo, etc.)

French Guiana getting a result would be the funniest thing ever.

This match is terrible. These teams are so bad.

Canada should be ashamed of themselves.. its only 2-0 with both goals coming off of keeper mistakes.

French Guiana has scored 2 goals in 2 minutes, all of the sudden it's 3-2

This is hilariously awful. But it's like a train wreck, I can't look away.
