Damn, that sucks. Hopefully she is in total remission now. I did a oncology surgery rotation in school and we had breast cancer clinic 2 days a week and I saw some really sad cases. Sometimes chemo/radiation/lumpectomy is appropriate, but IMO if mastectomy will have an extremely high cure rate, I do...

The issue with the prophylactic double mastectomy is that we don't know who would've developed cancer had they not done the surgery. But to answer your question I do not think the advances in chemotherapy and/or radiation are more effacacious than a double mastectomy, but I have no data to back that...

Let's weigh the risks versus benefits:
Risks = infection, scarring, aesthetically unpleasing breasts, anesthesia risks
Benefits = lowering risk of developing breast cancer
It should be up to the women to decide what is more important to them.

Local anesthesia is absolutely all you need for this though. Only time we send to ER is if it is abscessed or bigger than this video. Then the OR would be more appropriate ...

I'm no surgeon for sure, but these EICs(epidermal inclusion cysts) are usually located in the subcutaneous tissue and aren't in any real danger of hitting any vital nerves arteries or veins unless you just absolutely don't know what you're doing. They are relatively easy to remove depending on size ...
