re: Ate at Deanos in Lafayette Sunday - jiggy0
I actually tried out Johnny's to see what all the fuss was about from the Johnny freaks on this board. There is one in St. Martinville and I went there thinking it would suck. It was pretty darn good....

re: Slowest fast food restaurant? BK or Popeyes? - jiggy0
. Popeye's is damn fine chicken.
Agreed. For a fast food joint the quality of the food coming out of those places is pretty high. I can't think of another fast food place that does what they do at that level of quality. My friend sells them seafood wholesale by the ton.. He...

re: Vegetarian recipes? - jiggy0
I do this a couple of nights a week too. I mostly just make a soup - bean soups of all kinds. It's easy too, just soak beans overnight and put in crockpot in morning with onions, etc. Tomato soup is easy and you can do all kinds of stuff with it. Eat them with a salad or grilled cheese sandwich....

re: Best Ribeye recipes - jiggy0
it insures that the meat is cooked evenly. If you cook it right out of the fridge the outside gets overcooked before the middle is brought to the correct temperature. Room temperature is ideal, but letting it sit outside the fridge for just 30 minutes makes a big difference....

re: Best Ribeye recipes - jiggy0
My favorite method is the Alain Ducasse method, taught to me by a friend. You need at least a 1 1/2 inch steak to do this. 2" is ideal. The idea is to not use high heat at all, but rather a medium heat for longer periods than normal. Salt and Pepper are the seasonings, with only the fat from the...

Yes, taste is subjective. You like your steak marinated in pickle juice overnight. He's just telling you, subjectively and like most rational people with working taste buds, that he wouldn't like that. ...

I would throw in a couple of carrots, an onion quartered, and some mushrooms, then strain it all out in the morning and discard. Maybe some sage and Rosemary too....

re: La Carreta to open in Lafayette - jiggy0
Never heard of that place, La Pagua and Acme Taco are my go to mexican places here
I like both of these places. I was disappointed in Acme Burger, though. It's right around the corner from my house and I was really hoping for a go-to burger place. Have you been there? ...

Meh, looks like another Agave or Coyote Blues. I'll go because I like Tex-Mex, but we have enough of that here. Hopefully I'm wrong and it'll be something different. ...
I say mix w/ ground beef but that's b/c I think it would be too much carbs otherwise.
I don't know dude. If you're thinking about frying boudin and putting it on a hamburger bun I don't think you're worried that much about a little more carbs....

re: POTUS spending cuts are constantly rejected by Congress - jiggy0
You write Obama tried to cut 24 billion but it was turned down by congress. Republicans have offered Obama the ability to make 85 billion in cuts anywhere he wishes. Obama has refused the offer. A good leader would take the offer, make those 24 billion in cuts he suggested, and find other areas t...
quote: So what's the big deal? Obama's goal is redistribution of wealth. You can't do that without raising taxes on 'the rich.' In the past the Republicans have caved. Now, it looks as though they won't. That's why Obama is in hissy fit mode.
Isn't it wonderful to see though? ...
The horror
Oh I agree it's ridiculous.. An across the board cut to the baseline is actually needed. But what keeps being said on this board is that the cuts are to projected growth, giving the impression that all programs will have more to spend next year. That's not the ...
The only issue I really have is that it is level cuts across the board, which I disagree with. However, considering it is cuts to spending increases, I don't really care. We need all the help we can get.
It's true in totality that we will be spending more than last year, but there...
