Rice, unless it's hamburger steak with onion/mushroom gravy, or white gravy with chicken fried steak. Those are the only 2 acceptable uses for mashed taters. Pointe Coupee Parish...

re: New Vehicle - Inspection Sticker - jasonb01
I know that it would be $20 to get one and in most other parishes it is $10.
Usually that's because some parishes, like EBR, require an emissions test, which is a $20 sticker. I am in Pointe Coupee parish, which doesn't do emissions tests, and it is only $10. With that being said...
The original Ralph and Kakoo's on the island side
I don't remember this, must have been before my time ( I was born in '76). I know Kakoo Olinde was from the False River area and was an original founder of the restaurant. I do remember the Ox-Bow. Ate there many Sat nights as a ...

My mother in law lives on Chenal (part of False River). Last year, about a month after the draw down started, her sea wall collapsed. The cables popped that held it up. The state said it isn't their fault, because the cables were in bad shape and it could have happened during a natural drought, wh...

re: 2014 or 2015 Mazda 3 Question? - jasonb01
I had a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback for about 6 months as a company car. I drove it like gas was free, which it was for me, and still avg'ed around 34 mpg. It wasn't a bad car at all, just don't plan to put anyone in the backseat, especially a child's car seat. Had lots of room in the hatch though....

re: What's a good batter for shrimp and catfish - jasonb01
Thanks for all the help. Stopped by Tony's and picked up some catfish, oysters, shrimp and hush puppies. I fried the fish using mustard and a mix of pure cornmeal and seasoned LA fish fry, with a little added seasoning. The oysters, I used the same cornmeal, but no mustard, of course. My wife wan...

Thanks! That sounds exactly how I'd like it. It clicked when you said crust. I always refer to it as a batter, but a simple crust is more what I'm after. ...

re: What's a good batter for shrimp and catfish - jasonb01
So just straight mustard then the cornmeal? I guess what confuses me is some have milk, eggs, mustard, flour, cornmeal, and on and on. I don't like a thick batter either, but I do like it to be coated evenly. I don't like when the batter is falling off in places....

re: What's a good batter for shrimp and catfish - jasonb01
And I did a search on here and all that came up was someone wanting to know if they can batter their stuff the day before and store it in the fridge. I really like the catfish that has mustard in the batter, but I don't have a clue as to how much mustard to use or anything. ...

What's a good batter for shrimp and catfish - jasonb01
I'm afraid to admit, but I really don't know how to make a decent batter. I can cook, grill, bake, etc., but anytime I've had fried seafood, it was either at a restaurant or someone's house that was doing the frying. I've fried before, but nothing more that rolling it in some Zatarain's. I think I...
