re: It's monday morning in China and their stock market just fell by 8.4% - TigerDog83
The one thing that worries me, and which is not being reported that much, is that global trade is absolutely plummeting right now to levels not since the crisis.
I believe some of the latest Baltic shipping index numbers were really bad. I am beginning to wonder if we are witnessi...

re: LINE/LNCO - Anyone with an opinion? - TigerDog83
Anyone holding an MLP E&P after 11/2014 doesn't understand MLPs.
MLP is a good structure for pipelines but I've never seen how it's a good model for an E&P. Linn is essentially in a death spiral and a lot of their recent acquisitions will probably again be available only this time...

re: Shell Prepares for 'Prolonged Downturn' In Oil Prices - TigerDog83
Not sure on gas prices. The oil price crunch will cause a lot of the banks to redetermine their loans and will put in jeopardy a lot of this growth at any cost. Gas production numbers appear to be flat month over month for the last two months of data although this is surely because of the low price...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - TigerDog83
This is my problem with XOM. I'm not convinced it's a fantastic long-term play. Cars are going away from gas faster than I thought they would. I think in 10 years people will actually be buying electric cars in huge numbers. The availability of alternative energy will force oil to sell for a ...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - TigerDog83
FWIW, I've decided to follow T Boone Pickens philosophy on rig count, and that's my buy point for upstream oil. I think there is probably opportunity right now in down stream and mid stream, but I don''t know enough about it.
I don't think anybody can even go by rig count any long...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - TigerDog83
I've been thinking about buying either XOM or CVX but I'm feeling good about waiting until Q4 or Q1 2016 to see where things shake out. I have a feeling Opec might change course in December after a lot of the shale oil players go bankrupt due to unsustainable debt loads and Saudi et al retain marke...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
I would guess it's long odds any bodies are ever found. Maybe a life jacket or the ice chest turns up down the road. Sad outcome. With the Gulf Stream and no good position for uscg to start from the south Atlantic is just too big of a search area. ...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
It's a tremendous long shot but if the kids are somehow found and rescued off of a buoy picture sighting it would be absolutely unreal. Without sounding inconsiderate it would almost be equally as amazing if they are able to retrieve bodies in the area as they have to be getting close to hypothermi...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
Has the coast guard commented on the buoy photos? That would be a hugely unlikely event to catch these boys on camera but the picture at least gave the families one last dash of hope today. If it was truly a sighting it really means they have been searching too far south the last couple of days. ...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
I assume no ships were near the buoy? That would have had to be an aircraft only search out there. If that was truly the boys at that buoy the search over the last day or two would have been concentrated too far south also it seems. ...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
Never fished the East coast of Florida but if I did regularly no way I wouldn't have a ditch bag with an EPIRB and a PLB in it. The search area got really big really quickly with the gulf stream right there. ...
I think they probably had trouble with the motor and took the cowling off and a wave hit them turning the boat over.
Very possible also. No sea anchor, nothing to put the bow into the waves and they get swamped from behind. ...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
Have you ever taken the cowling off an outboard engine? I can't imagine that it came off during capsizing.
Yes, and I have also seen an ocean storm build to 8-10' seas within an hour before while working offshore years ago so I'd have a hard time ruling anything out here. Maybe th...
Highly unlikely for one to come off on it's own. They are kind of designed to stay put for a reason. Mine takes a good bit of force to "unsnap".
Sure, but has your boat ever capsized in the Atlantic in a squall? I would assume that could have some bearing on it being a possibility...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
If they were as good as their parents think they are when it comes to the sea, they would have been with the capsized boat. It is 1000x easier to spot an overturned hull (as already proven since it was found) than two kids in life jackets with a Yeti cooler.
I tend to agree with th...

re: Missing Florida boys' boat found capsized - TigerDog83
These kinds of searches are like the proverbial needle in a haystack deal. Planes are looking for two people with just upper body profiles and possibly a 3' cooler and two life jackets. This isn't exactly a big target. Waves out there just give off false visuals when they break and the ocean is f...
