re: Every wonder how some restaurants stay in business. Maple cafe in West End... - vistajay
I've been there for lunch a few times and liked it. When I was there it was not full but had 5 or so tables of older clientele and ladies who lunch. I need to try it for dinner. ...

re: How much would I need to make per year to live comfortably in New Orleans? - vistajay
You will get a lot of naysayers but what it comes down to is you can do it if you really want to be in New Orleans. You can live relatively safely in Mid City or Lakeview, get a comfortable enough house, and send your 2-3 kids to a good public charter like Hynes or one of the International schools ...

re: What's the youngest age of kids you'd take tubing down Bogue Chitto? - vistajay
It's real easy to get thrown out of the tube and trapped under a log in the river when tubing if the current is strong, and easy for an adult to be separated from the child. Life jacket may not be enough if they are trapped. I would make sure they can swim and are strong enough to get themselves o...

re: Anyone know about this Arceneauxs Bucktown Seafood restaurant that is opening... - vistajay
There was a restaurant there before Katrina that was opened I think by a Galatoire's maitre'd, and served food similar to Galatoire's in a more casual setting. It was great, but it didn't make it because no one thinks to go to Bucktown for trout amandine. Can't remember the name though....

re: Ursa Major requiring purchase of non-refundable ticket to dine - vistajay
I will probably still go. The menu looks interesting. But I think we have too many dining options for "tickets" to last. Maybe I will wait a few months and walk up instead of making a reservation....

Ursa Major requiring purchase of non-refundable ticket to dine - vistajay
The new Booty's offshoot, Ursa Major, in South Market looks cool. But they are the first NOLA restaurant to adopt a ticketing scheme whereby you purchase a $20 non-refundable ticket for your reservation time. Also mandating a 20% tip on all meals. Thoughts on whether this will catch on or die quick...

re: Need suggestions. Looking to buy a nice sized swimming pool where I can swim laps. - vistajay
How much?
About $73,000, though that may have included landscaping as well. Included a large hot tub, heater and lots of decking. High wall on one side that is 45 feet long so lots of extra tile. Pool is irregularly shaped. Not just a rectangle. You can probably get something to ...

We built a lap pool in NOLA that is 45 ft long. Works quite well but we are not former competitive swimmers or anything....
