re: What was your favorite meal cooked by your grandmother? - vistajay
Both my grandmothers were pampered housewives who had maids who cooked for them every day. Neither of them could cook a lick. But my paternal great grandmother made a great beef vegetable soup, and I loved the gumbo made by by paternal grandmother's maid....

re: OT Runners - Minimalist / barefoot running shoes - vistajay
I've been running in them for about 5 years. I love them. I have Vibram KSO, Merrill Vapors and some Merrill road shoes that are 0 drop but have a little bit of sole for longer runs. I transitioned to them over about two months, and have not run in anything else since. Take it slow and you will be...

re: U.S. soccer making changes to youth set up - vistajay
On a macro level I get it, but on a micro level it will hurt my son at least at first. He's a November birthday so he will be forced off his current team after 4 years and have to play with older kids and a time when there is a wide range of physical maturity (13-14 yrs old). Physically he'll catc...

re: Are MLS academies now the big dogs in US youth soccer? - vistajay
No one of any brain involved with LA Fire thinks its an academy club. However, its top players get invited to tryouts with the Chicago MLS Academy. You can bash on LA Fire all you want, with some justification, but there's nothing else local that will give them better training and opportunities. A ...

re: How much would I need to make per year to live comfortably in New Orleans? - vistajay
You will get a lot of naysayers but what it comes down to is you can do it if you really want to be in New Orleans. You can live relatively safely in Mid City or Lakeview, get a comfortable enough house, and send your 2-3 kids to a good public charter like Hynes or one of the International schools ...

re: What's the youngest age of kids you'd take tubing down Bogue Chitto? - vistajay
It's real easy to get thrown out of the tube and trapped under a log in the river when tubing if the current is strong, and easy for an adult to be separated from the child. Life jacket may not be enough if they are trapped. I would make sure they can swim and are strong enough to get themselves o...

re: Anyone know about this Arceneauxs Bucktown Seafood restaurant that is opening... - vistajay
There was a restaurant there before Katrina that was opened I think by a Galatoire's maitre'd, and served food similar to Galatoire's in a more casual setting. It was great, but it didn't make it because no one thinks to go to Bucktown for trout amandine. Can't remember the name though....
