+1, Colleyville would be my recommendation based on the info given, almost exactly where you'd be working and a really nice area. I'd prefer to live in FW proper, but I'm not a suburbs type guy....

re: CFA Check in thread. - WTRanger
I don't mean this to be rude, but you're not going to go directly from your current job to your dream NYC job. Find more achievable goals to help lay the path to get there. Lots of things will help, transitioning to a front-office banking role, CFA, MBA, etc. The most likely way you can get there...

re: GMAT question - WTRanger
Manhattan GMAT has really good small guides for individual topics. If he can identify his weaknesses, he can focus on those specific guides. I improved about 100 points that way. They come with some good online material as well....

re: MS in Finance? - WTRanger
I think you're odds are better if you shoot for a target MBA. It's a process of a few years though, and you'll need solid work experience (corporate finance, commercial lending, etc), high GMAT scores, and be involved in the community to make it happen. MSf might get you there sooner, but it's cer...

IMO part of climbing the corporate ladder is doing BS like this...especially if offered/encouraged by your bank. If it somehow interferes with your CPA prep you should find a way to get out of it....

Use every single resource available to you. Network, make connections, leverage family relationships, reach out to LSU career services, monster.com, etc. If you're just dropping your resume on organizations' websites, you're not going to have a ton of luck, those things are black holes....

Had a similar situation happen to me. You'll most likely have to file a police report for the insurance company to treat this as an uninsured motorist situation. Don't know how this works in Louisiana, but you can actually do it online in Texas so I really doubt you will have a problem....

If you're Goldman Sachs or bust, sure. You can still have a great career with a higher ceiling than an accountant from a school like LSU. Accounting is always less risk less reward from a career standpoint than finance....

re: Have you ever taken the GMAT? - WTRanger
You should be fine with a goal of 450, but the new section isn't truly any new material, more of a different format of question. Still though, your first step should be a practice test that you get for free when you register for the GMAT. Hell you may drop a 600+ and realize you don't need to wast...

It's called Integrated Reasoning and is both math and verbal, I just took a practice test a couple weeks ago and didn't think it was that bad. re: Accounting or Finance - WTRanger
I majored in both, which has been a pretty big help for me in my career (energy banking). If you have to choose one, pick the one you like most. I always felt like accounting was the organization of numbers into usable information, and finance was making decisions based on that information....

re: Have you ever taken the GMAT? - WTRanger
Make sure you're not using an outdated book, the GMAT added a new section in 2012. I wouldn't stress too much if all you need is a 400-500, but the first thing you should do is take a practice test off mba.com to assess strengths and weaknesses....

re: Value of a MBA vs Accounting degree? - WTRanger
To build on what Flask said, I don't see how this MBA would add value short term, particularly if you have a job lined up, and it could limit long term opportunities. You would be preventing yourself from completing a more prestigious program in the future and/or a company sponsored one....
