re: Gating canals in houma area - BFIV
Cannot do this without Army Corps approval, they won't approve it without the canal being deemed private.
OK, so who deems the canal as being private? Doesn't that designation and decision settle the issue? If someone dug out for a large pond on private property and then installed...

re: Gating canals in houma area - BFIV
I think that the water belongs to everyone as do the fish. If the fish can swim in and out with the tide so should we!
I'm really trying to understand this whole discussion. This is something I've never encountered. Let's say, for argument's sake, that a landowner built an earthe...

re: Gating canals in houma area - BFIV
quote: A canal linked to a public waterway? No way in hell that should be gated. Why?
I really can see both sides of the argument since I don't have a dog in the fight. It does kind of lean, to me, though, toward the notion that these private property canals linked to a ...

re: Raised garden bed - BFIV
What is the best time of year to plant a Raised Garden Bed?
Depends on your location. I'm in Virginia and if I planted a raised garden bed when yall do down there, I would be wasting my time. Frost and snow would kill it. I usually plant my garden on May 15, plants and seed. ...

re: Raised garden bed - BFIV
They need approximately 2 inches of water weekly per plant and I also restrict water at certain times to induce "heat" shock. I'm not sure the milk jug will give me the exactness I'm looking for, but thank you for the suggestion.
Yall are a lot more scientific with this garden...

re: Raised garden bed - BFIV
Just cut a small slit in the bottom of a plastic milk jug. Fill it with water and place the jug near your plant. It will drip water very slowly and isn't nearly as expensive or time consuming as fooling with that soaker hose and timer, etc....

re: CHP holders how long before you stopped feeling like everyone was staring at you - BFIV
Just being used to having it with me on the tractor, cutting firewood, and just having it on me has long since conditioned me to not even thinking about it being there. It's kind of like having a pocket knife for years. Kind of feel naked when I don't have either one with me....

VA concealed carry reciprocity re-instated and update - BFIV
Just an update. Looks to me like some folks realized they were gonna lose votes come election time. But...the untold story is that the can of worms the Commonwealth Attorney and Governor opened was going to have far more serious repercussions on other items which require reciprocal agreements, esp...

re: Safe to burn lumber in fireplace? - BFIV
Yeah, if you really want to clean out your chimney flue, just burn a bunch of salt treated lumber in your fireplace or stove. Top of the chimney will roar like a jet engine. (DON'T do this!)...

re: Another flood headed yall's way? - BFIV
Thanks for that ratio! Living up here in the mountains, and everyone who experiences snow a lot (that's you, RogerTheShrubber) we know that there is a "wet" snow and a "dry" snow. This is supposed to be a "wet" snow. That kind of snow collapses roofs, takes down trees and power lines, and causes ...

re: out of state hunting poll - BFIV
I used to hunt every year in deep south Alabama. I would always plan my trip for late December and mid-January. Two reasons: it was usually much colder then and the South Alabama rut usually didn't come in until January. I would hunt here until our season ran out which was usually a month before...

Another flood headed yall's way? - BFIV
This storm is gonna dump lots of rain down your way and it's supposed to dump massive amounts of snow on us. Just in our area, we're looking at 15"-19" of snow this weekend. And that's on top of the six inches we got today. Central Virginia (Shenandoah Valley) and Fredericksburg area are expectin...
There are a few things I can't bash in the noggin, someone's dog is one (I did shoot a stray chihuahua once that had a prolapsed anus, so much confusion and guilt) another would be a river otter.
You could bash that otter in the head real easily if he was wiping out the fish in...

re: Doing Taxes and ObamaCare Rant - BFIV
What people don't realize is that the ACA, "Obamacare," tax credit is just that - a tax credit. It is essentially just an advancement on your tax returns. It doesn't magically make your healthcare cost lower, it just prorates your return and screws you over in February. Not only that, it incr...

re: Doing Taxes and ObamaCare Rant - BFIV
Update on tax filings: The government pushed back the deadline for companies to file ACA reporting to May of 2016. Therefore, it will not correspond with individual IRS tax filings. You may file your taxes without the ACA 1095 forms. Thanks,
This does not mean the gover...
