Strangely, horse pastures seem to go for a lot more than cow pastures....never quite understood that...
Horse pastures are generally in much better shape than cattle pasture. Better grazing, better forage, cleaner, etc. If you're ever near Lexington, Kentucky look at the condit...

Yeah, EddieHewitt, Ernie could flat out sing. He was a troubled man, though. Many is the night he bailed out of bed after suffering a nightmare from Nam. He would never tell me the details, though. Had something to do with a foxhole and the VC. You didn't dare shake him in any way if you needed...

Just lost another dear friend... - BFIV
My dear friend and picking buddy, Ernie Craft, passed away today in South Carolina. Ernie really loved to cane pole fish out of one of those South Carolina pirouges(spelling?). He died from the effects of being sprayed with Agent Orange in Vietnam and our government and the Veterans Administration...
I don't have any to sell this year. I have about a cord at the most, and I'll burn that myself by January.
Through the years, I've had good luck going in behind the loggers and cuttin firewood from their cull pile. Landowners usually will let you because they want the mess ...

I had mixed feelings about it, too. Kind of like cuttin down a 2,000 year old redwood tree. They could take that dried root to NYC and sell it directly to the Chinese buyers there for about 1500 - 2000 dollars/ounce....

Haven't found a non-facebook picture of this big sang root yet, but if you have a facebook account ( :yack:), here is WCYB-TV's picture of the 200 year old root. Worth about 9K dried out. Got a lot of mine down. Just hafta cut it up and haul it in. I like to cut wood when it's about 40 degrees or colder. Chain saw seems to run better then, too. Plus, all the yellow jackets, rattlesnakes, and copperheads are movin real slow......

Short ginseng video from local TV station... - BFIV
It's ginseng season here and it's nothing like that program on Discovery Channel about ginseng hunters. This week two local guys from Lee County, Virginia dug up what could be the oldest ginseng root ever found in the U.S. It was 200 years old and weighed about 11 ounces. If I can find a non-faceb...
