| Pelicans Talk|| re: Monty needs to be fired - 42 on 11/30/14 at 12:42 pm|
It doesn't need to be an "above" thing. Just add some new blood that helps address what you are not, like guards and wings moving off the ball.
Also, at some point, it's not a matter of "good" so much as "fit." These players need something else. It can be an addition, not a replacement.
| Pelicans Talk|| re: Monty needs to be fired - 42 on 11/30/14 at 12:16 pm|
Let me apologize for the extra with. I know that is very upsetting to some.
For my money, I keep Demps over Monty, but I think both go if there is a change.
Regardless, I want coaching staff changes. These personalities are not being managed well. At some point it is a problem with guys practi...

ATL, you continue to raise good points.
The issue is not whether to fire Monty now or later. There are two considerations:
What does Davis want?
With whom do you replace Monty with?
It's nice to assume Coach Whoever would just love love love to coach here, but how many of those guys did no...
| Pelicans Talk|| re: Thousands each game are missing the opportunity to witness Anthony Davis - 42 on 11/17/14 at 9:37 pm|
Many of the arguments in this thread are from people making assumptions about attendance or making hasty generalizations.
The biggest factors in attendance for teams with no real title legacy are: current record, last season's record, night of the week, opponent, and having a star in no particula...
| Pelicans Talk|| re: Holiday's Turnovers - 42 on 11/16/14 at 9:56 pm|
This has been a nonissue since his arrival. There has been no sustained performance of his in the turnover department that sets him apart from guards in similar roles in any negative way....
| Pelicans Talk|| re: If Monty doesn't make it through the season, do we take look at Mark Jackson? - 42 on 11/8/14 at 1:46 pm|
The shooting sucks. The rest of it is alright, it seems, but it is hard to tell when there is such a cloud over this basic aspect of the game. Still, this performance is not inconsistent with better shooting in the long run... Sample size.
Also, the possible Pelicans records thus far are 4-0, 3-1...
| Pelicans Talk|| re: Omer Asik doing what he does: Rim Protection numbers - 42 on 11/6/14 at 7:49 am|
This exactly what he was picked up for. If he scores double digits that is the icing on top. Again, there are enough scorers on this team.
Yup. Guards are thinking twice about driving to the rim, as well. Affecting their decision-making does not show up in his box score, but it sh...
I'm not posting this to say we need to play like Houston. I just wish the Demps/Monty tandem would show more signs of creative problem solving, market knowledge, and the basic concept of playing to your strengths.
I get what you are saying, but at this point, I'm not convinced the...
| Pelicans Talk|| re: General NBA Links - 42 on 4/25/14 at 4:32 pm|
There have been some lazy so-called arguments put forward here for just abandoning the "long 2" or whatever disparaging, poorly-defined term said poster is using to try to incorrectly repeat what they misunderstood from what someone else said or wrote, so it's nice to see someone like Morey flat-out...

I am not sure I buy that Evans' role thisbyear is reflectiven of the real plan. If the plan is to ditch Gordon, this season is just "making it work" while you got the asset you wanted (for perhaps a few reasons) before you could ditch asset you do not....
| Pelicans Talk|| re: General NBA Links - 42 on 4/15/14 at 12:11 pm|
If you look at MIP awards, the improvement comes in the season awarded or the season before, and it's about an even split.
As a result, I view the MIP awards as more of a media "oops" award, but rather than saying "My bad," they say "Uh oh, Happy learned how to putt."
Lowe's comment seems to s...

I am also thinking along these lines, but I think a youngish big comes first, then fill in the wings with the MLE wing du jour.
Again, just my current mental line of thought. Kicking the tires on it....
| Pelicans Talk|| re: General NBA Links - 42 on 4/14/14 at 6:26 pm|
Star players are rare. That is why I think they go for a guy that is not quite developed yet. Trade for a guy who they can lock up (rookie or guy early in second deal) to be while Davis grows, then hope that is enough gravity to keep the mass together or maybe go nova.
| Pelicans Talk|| re: Stiemsma has been waived, Melvin Ely signed - 42 on 4/14/14 at 6:21 pm|
He had non-Bird Rights, which were very limited. We lost those.
| Pelicans Talk|| re: General NBA Links - 42 on 4/14/14 at 1:23 pm|
Teams don't usually trade good bigs on rookie deals. And any RFA bigs that are good enough to go after are probably not realistic targets. I suppose if you put Ryno on the table in a S&T it could work, but I see that as a lateral move. If you add a good 3rd big to AD/Ryno then you have maybe ...

It was a one year deal.
Fear, you can break the picnic table this year....
Yeah. I guess I am just terribly confused by the Evans move. I like Evans. I like his game, warts and all. I liked the trade because I interpreted it as a move toward a coherent philosophy.
I think it was asset. His declining deal makes himnharder to extend if his production remain...

He gets paid, counts against the cap for this season, etc. It is fairly meaningless, all things considered, though it does eliminate an expiring contract that could be used in a post-season, pre-July 1 trade. Likely this means he was not needed for any deals that may be on the burner, so, again, lar...

They may get a top 3 pick, but the NBA won't be giving anyone that pick. It is assigned via a random process. Thinking otherwise arises out of ignorance of the procedure....
