Don't over think it. Start out near the point on the gulfside. Fan cast 5 or 6 times, move twenty yards towards the bay, and repeat til you get down to the pier. Well, its still just fishing. Sometimes they just don't show. That said, the grass could have been the issue, the tide on that morning, maybe it rained the day before, water clarity or something.
I just happen to think late July, early August and early October are the best times for that spot....

As an aside, I sent some family down to Ft. Morgan the day after Pop fished it. They didn't get there until 9, but caught an AL limit of specks...and no reds or anything else. Same methods as pop the day before...guess that couple hour time difference is important....

Had a house on D'arbonne for 28 years. Great white perch and catfish and pretty darn good bass fishing. Big open swaths of water for skiing and such, but plenty of back water with trees and structure....
