re: Opinions on electric smokers? - wiltznucs
Used a Bradley Digital for many years, they do a great job. Pros Easy clean up Changing wood types is easy with the pucks Makes a good looking smoke ring Set it and walk away Cons The pucks aren't inexpensive and not readily available If in the market I'd seriously consider the Tra...

re: I finally tried Russian River Brewing Company's Pliny the Elder last night - wiltznucs
Pliny was a pioneer in the style. A very good balanced DIPA that drinks easily. It gets beat up on a bit now mostly because it's not the only player in the game any more. Great beer and a solid West Coast DIPA. For a change of pace try to get a Northeast/VT style DIPA like Heady Topper or La...

re: Griswold Cast Iron ... - wiltznucs
The inside of these Griswold pans is smooth and polished. You occasionally run into one with a casting defect but the company's quality control was very rigorous. Usually if you see defects they are gouges/scratches from using metals spoons or pitting which is often from rust/corrosion. You could...

Should look like this, fakes weren't common among the Dutch ovens. Any pitting on the inside would diminish value. The writing should be crisp and without scratches. It should sit flat and not wo...

re: New KFC Colonel Sanders commercials.... - wiltznucs
Different opinion here, KFC isn't failing but rather walking away. The U.S. health food craze hit them hard and the Asian market is growing exponentially. Popeyes and Bojangles are picking up KFC's scraps (not that this can't be successful) in the States while the Colonel is hedging their bets on ...

re: Seeing lots of turkey nests while cutting wheat - wiltznucs
This, in my area the poults are on the run and pretty big now. Cool pic, I've walked up on some poults/nests and seen hens go absolutely nuts. I had a hen go into full strut and make 4-5 laps around me a few years ago. She was so close that I could have kicked her....

re: Thoughts on a Toyota Highlander? - wiltznucs
2011 Highlander with 94K miles here. Been a great car with no problems. Oil changes, air filters and tires and that's about it. Getting 20-21mpg and plenty of power. Ride quality is better than 4Runner and difference in cargo room is negligible. Consumer Reports best in class several years runn...

re: Feathers are flying and turkeys are dying, part two... - wiltznucs
Hunting private with an outfitter I've used for the past four years. Public is nearby, some guys at the same hotel did okay. IMHO, private is pretty much the only way to go. Asking permission just doesn't work anymore....

Feathers are flying and turkeys are dying, part two... - wiltznucs
So it's been a fast and furious 24 hours in Nebraska. The turkey population has taken a bit of a hit here, but nothing a little shoe leather and some guerrilla warfare couldn't take care of. Finished the season with 4 longbeards this year. An Osceola and these three Merriam/Rio hybrids. Sad to...

re: gould turkey hunt (paging wiltznucs) - wiltznucs
The Grand Slam, Royal Slam and World Slam are a pretty great achievement for the turkey hunter. I've got two World Slams and a few Grand Slams behind me now. Hunting the different subspecies is fun in that each one has a unique color pattern in the feathers and distinct terrain that they inhabit...

re: gould turkey hunt (paging wiltznucs) - wiltznucs
I used Brad Fulk with Rio Sonora Outfitters. Heck of an operation and if memory serves me we had six hunters bag 13 longbeards in less than 24 hours. I'd highly recommend them but you should always check their more recent references. There is a Goulds population in Arizona. They issued a total...
