Start at ST 151 and fish every rig, buoy, floating trash between there and the edge of the shelf. Wahoo come onto the shelf starting in December through about April to spawn. They are not deep in GC, ~150'-350' is what you're looking for and surface temps 67-74°......

Big Lake - geaux001
I posted a while back about moving to Houston from New Orleans and finding some new fishing/ hunting opportunities fairly close to home and got some decent advice. Still haven't found a place to duck hunt that isn't priced sky high but I digress. I've come to the decision that I am going to try and ...

re: Sliding cork rigs, what say the OB? - geaux001
Double rigs on any cork get messed mainly because the baits tumble over cork multiple times when they're cast. This because there's weight on the cork, at the end of the line and somewhere between the cork and end bait. The way to correct this is to cast sidearm as to lessen the tendency for the bai...

re: Anyone own an Avet SX reel? - geaux001
I have a couple of their 30W's as well and they aren't near as smooth as my Tiagras but again, they have so much drag, more than I can realistically hold without being harnessed, so I decided to convert them to my Amberjack and Grouper reels. Matched with 200# hollow core and a 250# mono topshot, I ...

4 of them... Good reels for jigging tuna and snapper fishing. Back when I bought them they were the fastest reel with the most drag capability on the market. Not sure if that's true anymore with the advent of speed jigging and the new market it created. Bottom line is I've had them 6 or so years and...

re: Tuna Charters - geaux001
Going rate for tuna trips is going to be ~$1400/ day + fuel. Some charters offer a trip with fuel included for ~$2/2.2k. If you just want to go offshore, rig trips(sans red snapper) will be a bit cheaper. I like to pay fuel at the end of the trip because not every trip requires a 300 mile round trip...

I haven't read through all the pages here but I'd try and find out if he didn't have someone run his boat for him that day. It happens all the time between guides. IT's not uncommon for guides to bad mouth each other too so be leery of a guide or two outing him in this circumstance. The timing of...
