I second the vote for UCF area to live/commute to downtown. For a young, single person, you can't go wrong.
As far as titans comments regarding dress codes, I would say that it has more to do with the predominant industry of tourism. Most of Florida has a similar take on what is acceptable dress...

Titans is pretty spot on. I live here now and there are good and bad areas. Largely depends on what you are looking for. Was in Thornton Park earlier today and it was great.
