The best thing you can do IMO is buy a book with the basic chords, and get comfortable with them. Then buy a book with the basic scales, and practice them until you can do them forwards, backwards and any pattern you can think of. Then start learning songs. Most people will never be patient enough ...

I much prefer [link=(http://www.rdio.com/)]Rdio[/link] over Spotify. It's the same cost with a much better interface. For example, with Spotify you have to launch a program on your desktop to use it, whereas Rdio is all web based so you just open it in a browser, which is much more convenient IMO....
