re: Dune... What are we going to do about this one? - thatguy1892
I see the similarities, but a "Sci-fi Rise of Islam?" No. I can point of the differences as well as the similarities, but again, I'm not about to get into a religious discussion here on the M/TV Board. ...
They wont touch that movie for a long long long time. Its basically a scifi version of the rise of islam. They even go on a jihad in the sequels.
While there are some similarities in the use of terminology and environment, if anyone thinks that the first Dune book is about rise of...

Dune... What are we going to do about this one? - thatguy1892
So I'm about 50 years behind and just finished the first book. While reading I thought I would try and visualize Lynch's version to try and get an idea of what the hell he was trying to do. (Btw I like Lynch's because it's so awesomely silly.) Well about 100 or so pages into it I said frick that I'll...

re: finally saw the Hobbit 3- question - thatguy1892
While The Hobbit movies were enjoyable, some of the changes and the way they were changed were unnecessary, mostly the involvement of Legolas. Instead of taking away much of Thorin's focus and adding in Legolas' major part in the story just to have plots connect, I would have done things this way...

Thread bump and update: Okay, finally got the first three WoT. The other day when I made this thread they didn't have it at B&N but today they did and with the help of the $30 gift card my friend have me I was able to get it plus the first book in the Sigma Force series by James Rollins called Sa...

After being very pissed off with how they filmed the meeting of Leaf and Bloodraven, I have come to accept that the two mediums are just separate story tellings. Dan and David have passed the point that inspired them to develope the show (The Red Wedding) and are just allowing themselves to take thi...
starting lestat today
I've only read the first two VCs but I have QotD hardback, just haven't gotten around to it. There's two consignment book stores here in Tuscaloosa and I normally go in there and get books for $2 dollars and that's where I found QotD. That being said, next tim...
Harry Potter is a very good read, especially toward the end.
Yeah I read those years ago when they first came out. And I started with The Order of the Phoenix so I have nothing to worry about there. Another question, and I saw it brought up the other day, and I know it's...

Well I am having a little trouble with remembering the hierarchy of Malazhan so switching back and forth with it was not a good idea. But I think some of that has to do with what you said with the cast of characters. With Gardens I was about a third of the way through before I got comfortable to whe...

Thanks for the input folks. With what y'all have said plus a quick search I think I'm going to go with The Wheel of Time, only question I have is, can I read one then come back a month or two later and not have trouble questioning characters and motives or do I need to read them back to back?...

Just realized I have two extra 20% off coupons from B&N that expire tomorrow and I'm trying to decide between The Sword of Truth Series and The Wheel of Time. Help deciding between the two is needed. Except, Tolkien started writing the mythology of Eä in 1914 that would essentially be the Silmarillion. He started notes and outline for The Hobbit in 1917. When the publisher asked for a sequel, he gave the publisher The Silmarillion and it was turned down. He started revising parts of The Silmaril...
The Hobbit was a stand alone book, not part of a series.
Yeah... You don't Tolkien much do you? He wanted the Silmarillion, The Hobbit and LOTR to be a series about gems and jewels. Also the demand for more books was there, the same way fans of ASoIaF demand books. ETA: LT1...
