First time I stopped in a homeless man was outside and stopped me on the way out to ask if had any change. As others have said, its a cash only place. I couldn't blatantly lie to his face and I...

 | re: Masters in petroleum engineering - fiyahbyrd157 on 4/23/13 at 1:20 pm If you have a relatively decent GPA you could always look for a job with one of the big service companies in their MWD/Directional Drilling service line. Work for about 2 years with them, exploit their training programs, then move on to an operator. ...

 | re: alternative minimum tax - fiyahbyrd157 on 12/12/12 at 3:08 pm If you make over the exemption threshold, you only have to pay AMT if the AMT calculation exceeds your 1040 regular tax calculation.
As someone else said this usually occurs when you have lots of personal deductions on your 1040 (multiple children, education credit, etc).
I won't go into inco...

 | Chicago Restaurant Scene - fiyahbyrd157 on 1/31/12 at 10:51 am Need some advice on restaurant in Chicago. Something a little more upscale, like a nice steakhouse or Italian. Lost a bet and now I have a dinner date in chi-town.
Last trip I boozed it up all weekend at DePaul and didn't get to explore the restaurant scene. Anyone been and know a good place to ...

If you go work for a Major you'll start 2 on/2 off as a company man before they move you into the office.
If you go the service company route you'll start in the field anyway....

 | re: Oil field position: Field Specialist Good or no good? - fiyahbyrd157 on 7/30/11 at 2:15 pm Yea, that's the easiest way to get into drilling.
Another way to make your way to drilling engineer is to go work for a service company for a year or two then make the jump to to the operator side.
Almost every young engineer in our office has gone this route....

 | re: Oil field position: Field Specialist Good or no good? - fiyahbyrd157 on 7/30/11 at 1:58 pm Green,
You don't necessarily need a PETE degree to do drilling. There many Mechanical and some Civil engineers that do it. It'll be harder to find someone that will hire an Industrial Engineer out of college for a drilling job than a PETE or Mechanical, but not impossible.
Like I said before, ...

Even MWD wouldn't be 36 months of training. I did that for a year and half and was running land jobs after 3 months (and 12 weeks in houston training) then running nights offshore for deepwater.
Frac is the only thing that I can imagine takes that much training to run a job....
