re: Benefits of an MBA with an engineering degree - Bayou Tiger
Overall mine has been a benefit. I got mine at night while working full-time as an engineer, so the company picked up most of the tab. Minimal cost and zero deferred income sure help the value proposition. Since I deal with a lot of financial analysis and strategy in tandem with engineering, the ...

re: Time to buy some XOM(Oil stock discussions)? - Bayou Tiger
Any ideas why CVX and XOM are getting hammered worse during this downturn than they did in either the 80's (oil price drop plus Black Monday) or 2008 (financial crisis and also a big drop in oil)? Just looking at monthlies (caveat) CVX is down 42% from recent highs and XOM is down 30%. During the...

re: How long will a battery chirp last in my smoke alarm? - Bayou Tiger
The living room ceiling in our new house is about 20+ feet tall, and there is a smoke detector on it. When it inevitably starts chirping one night at 2AM, my wife has already been warned that I will literally shoot it to shut it up....

re: Quick resume question - Bayou Tiger
If "trainee" is part of the true job title then leave it for now. Otherwise somebody will not be pleased when they verify. But once you hit the 6-month mark pull "trainee" and just use the real non-trainee job title for the full time period....

re: How to come off as polished in a business setting - Bayou Tiger
Being polished is only one facet of how people end up on a fast track, along with being proactive in your job and knowing the right people in the organization. Competence is also important for promotions at some companies. My suggestions on improving "polish": - Understand how your business make...

re: Derrius Guice power cleans as much as Nkemdiche - Bayou Tiger
JFC if you understood how ridiculous this lie was you wouldn't have posted it. I doubt you have ever hang cleaned more than 225 because if you have, you would understand how difficult it is. That being said I graduated high school 2 years ago, was top 5 strongest on a team littered with D1 pr...

re: Tips for paying off debt? - Bayou Tiger
Step 1 - Free up more monthly cash flow. Take a hard look at all of your monthly bills and fixed costs. Cut out any bills or features you can live without, and call to make sure you have the lowest rates on the stuff you want to keep. Step 2 - Try to be as frugal as possible with daily choices wh...

re: Still on the Learning Curve - 30 year mortgage better than 15 year mortgage? - Bayou Tiger
I like the 30 year loans due to the flexibility you have if things (job, health, economy, etc) go south and you need to make a lower payment. If you pay extra on the loan every month you can achieve almost the the same thing.
Yep, I agree and came to post the same thing. I have pa...

re: Ways to improve interviewing skills - Bayou Tiger
I would highly recommend the Interview Series of podcasts by Manager Tools.
