I use a 2x7 on my muzzleloader and a 3x9 on my rifle. If all of my shots were going to be inside of 250 yards I'd have a 2x7 on my rifle. Past 250 I feel I need a 3x9 only because I have a couple of stands that are a single lane and there are times I don't have time to use my binoculars....
| Outdoor Board|| re: Decent arrow target that can handle 315fps? - Raz4back on 10/16/14 at 11:13 pm|
If you want to be able to shoot broadheads then Rhinehart targets will last the longest (the Rhinoblocks are expensive, but have a replaceable core.) Stay away from a Block, I was getting pass throughs with my Switchback and broadheads (270FPS) after 50 or so shots. The Mckenzie Team Realtree Shotbl...

Grim Reaper's are proven heads, but when I shoot mechanical heads I prefer the larger entrance wounds made by rear deploying blades.
Ulmer's Edge.
Great head, they cut big holes and will out penetrate Rage heads due to a more forgiving blade angle and the ability of the blades to sw...

This may be part of your problem. Last year you were shooting a .330 spine arrow, this year you are shooting a .413 spine arrow. If the .413 spine is on the weak side your arrows aren't flying stra...

| Outdoor Board|| re: New Bow...what grain to shoot? - Raz4back on 9/30/14 at 10:34 pm|
What length are your arrows? If you shoot longer arrows 29" + you really should shoot 125 grain heads. With a shorter arrow you will still see a benefit to 125 grain heads, but you would be fine with 100 grain.
The more weight you put on the front end of an arrow (to a point) the better penetrati...

It wouldn't hurt at least while he's learning. Make sure when he aims from an elevated position that he bends at the waist rather than dropping his bow arm. As long as he maintains his form his POI won't change....
Congrats! What broadhead are you using?
Trophy Taker Ulmer Edge. That is the entrance hole in the shoulder. She was quartering to slightly and the head blew through the scapula and took out the heart. It was an easy 30 yard tracking job.
