re: Why is there such a thing as white flight if no one is racist? - Clames
If you're looking at it from a pure economical angle, then buying a lot in the ghetto for 10,000 then building a house makes a lot more sense than spending 100,000 on a lot in a gated community then building that same house.
Only to those that failed 3rd grade math....

re: Changing Transmission Fluid - Clames
ATF is very good at that. It's designed to be. I use old ATF to soak rusted bolts in and it works like Kroil after a few hours. Rag with some ATF on it to wipe down tools will keep the rust off better than spray silicone too. ...

re: Changing Transmission Fluid - Clames
Do you need to flush? No, not really. Unless there is some serious sludge and varnish in there (which is almost unheard of with modern ATFs and transmissions), you will see no benefit from a flush. I know some here will tell you otherwise but it is actually not required to change 100% of the ATF or ...

re: How do you clean Nickel Boron Bolt carrier groups? - Clames
I thought the whole point of buying into that nonsense was because they were so easy to clean. The Army thought the same when testing BCGs that were hard chromed entirely. Turns out crack propagation made ease of cleaning a moot point....

re: Motor Oil Question: Synthetic vs Conventional in Tundra ETA: Had the Oil Changed - Clames
Depends on the system, my PCV was routed to the intake tube in front of the throttle body from the factory. No manifold vacuum. Made a mess of the TB and IACV too. I used a lot of spray seafoam before redoing the setup....

re: Motor Oil Question: Synthetic vs Conventional in Tundra ETA: Had the Oil Changed - Clames
Sending oil back into the intake with the PCV is also like lowering the octane rating of the gasoline used. EGR raises the knock limit while PCV lowers it....

re: Motor Oil Question: Synthetic vs Conventional in Tundra ETA: Had the Oil Changed - Clames
Doesn't the EGR just pump in semi-exhaust gases while the PCV sends in actual oil?
EGR is a valve and solenoid that meters exhaust gas back into the intake stream post-throttle body to reduce NOx emissions and help knock limit. It's tapped right off the exhaust manifold or a port ...

re: Motor Oil Question: Synthetic vs Conventional in Tundra ETA: Had the Oil Changed - Clames
It's the damn EGR more the PCV. I deleted and tuned it out of my F150, huge difference behind the throttle body. Would like to do the same for the Ranger but it's integrated into the intake....

I don't see how varnish and deposits help seals. If anything having access to clean oil with the seal conditioners in modern blends would help the seals long term. ...

re: What tools should a man own? - Clames
Yes. Chainsaw, sawzall, circular saw, pole saw, and an angle grinder for abrasive cutoff wheels. More advanced men find a reason to own a bandsaw, porta-band, or chop saw. A good cordless combo tool set is mandatory. Portable air compressor and at a minimum a solid 20 - 30gal shop air compressor alo...
First off Mobil one isn't a true synthetic. They changed their formula several years back. Royal Purple and Amsoil are true synthetic oils. That being said I wouldn't hesitate to put Mobil one in my own engines.
Probably the biggest and most worthless arguments on BITOG oil snob...

re: A/C Mechanic reccomendation Metairie? - Clames
Seized the compressor or the bearing on the input shaft? If just the bearing it's a cheap and relatively easy fix. If the actual compressor then you will need more parts than just the compressor, you will need to flush the entire system and possibly replace the accumulator and orifice tube/expansion...
