8 lawns x $35/cut x 35ish cuts per year = $9800 per summer. Straight cash, homey....

Yep. I have 8 in here I cut weekly. Depending on the trimming it's $35-40 a cut. I currently work for our small family business so I'm flexible with my time.. I generally get off at lunch on Friday and start cutting. Get them all in by dark. Doing it as a side job does suck though when it rains, ha...

It tastes fine. We started using it recently. Has a very low "melt" temp so you can get it too hot easily. If you really start to use it alot its best to buy it in bulk....

Ideally you'd put 20% down to avoid PMI.
Other costs I'd think of would be homeowner's insurance, property taxes, and utilities.

Yes "The Bogleheads Guide to investing" is all about index funds. I would recommend the bogleheads guide to retirement planning though. Maybe not now, but as you get closer to retiring. It's more of a withdrawal strategy/planning/ss guide.
