re: Herb Growers -- few questions - Degas
Once your basil begins to flower, pinch those flowers off. The plant will continue to generate healthy leaves, otherwise the plant's energy is focused on the flower. Basil loves this LA direct sun, as long as it has water....

re: What is the target audience for trendy local downtown restaurants? - Degas
Seattle...downtown...we spent $18 on a pizza...we were still hungry
So each of you ordered $9 worth of food, downtown in a major city. That sounds like the equivalent cost of a mid ranged costing appetizer. Seems like a reasonable price and yes, I'd still be hungry too. :dunno:...

re: NOLA - Top 5 new and old - Degas
Is Peche better for lunch or dinner?
Peche is open all day, and I'm an advocate of going mid afternoon if you can. You'll pretty much have the whole place to yourself as opposed to the madhouse it turns into in the evenings....

Unfortunately, that's one of the sorriest looking banh mis that I've ever seen. Too bad it was your first, sort of like a bad prom date. No jalapenos for instance? Is Do's newer? I don't remember ever hearing of it....

re: Does anyone else find Southern cuisine outside of LA lacking? - Degas
I find LA gives itself entirely too much credit for its food
Careful. You're treading on thin ice. People from Baton Rouge don't take a liking to others not agreeing that their food and city is the absolute best in the world. I'm from the North, and according to folks here, I know no...

re: Sous Vide Newbie Messed around some this weekend - Degas
I purchase whole salmon filets when on sale and bag up the portions with seasoning and butter. I toss them into the freezer any time I want a quick and easy salmon dinner. I do them around 120-125 for an hour (a half hour to thaw in the bath, then a half hour to cook). 72 hour short ribs are my ...
