re: Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel's Risk - Methuselah
So as such, as the last would-be mega movie of the summer, Guardians of the Galaxy is now in the unpleasant position of having to “save” the summer. That’s silly of course, but that’s the narrative.
I think that author is just pulling that part about having to "save the summer" out o...
I guess another way of saying it would be what popularly elected official/leader had the most military acumen
Of course then you can get into the whole question of what is "popularly elected".
Ghengis Khan.
Strangely I just today finished reading a book on Ghengis Khan. (by R.P. Lister). Best I can gather is that his main strength was not really as a military strategist (although he did institute a disciplined, drilled approach to his Mongol warriors). Seems like he had ...

Are you saying they had to be elected before their military exploits? I think Napoleon would fit the bill. Although he lost in the long run. Also I bet most of the great military leaders were elected in one form or another. Some a whole lot more legitimately than others of course....

Q for River Parish historians - the wooden pier like structure off I-10 W/B - Methuselah
Does anybody know what the story is behind the decayed wooden pier like structure that is off to the right of I-10 westbound near the St. Charles/St. John line where it skirts the edge of the lake? When I was younger I heard a vague story that there was a town or settlement in this area that was ...
It also has the unobtainable task of following LOTR.
This is a valid point but I think it is unavoidable. Prequels have a tough row to hoe to begin with because of the very fact that they're set BEFORE the original movies. That in itself takes some of the suspense away. Add to that...

I love to talk about superhero movies. But for a change of pace, what's your favorite Humprey Bogart movie? And why do you like it? I think mine is The African Queen. It might not be as iconic as some of his other movies like Casablanca or The Maltese Falcon. But I think I like it for exa...
