re: The lucrative business of crappy art - Methuselah
For me, art peaked with the Impressionists. It went beyond the older art which, while often brilliant was more designed to give a photographic like representation (I think maybe the advent of photography had something to do with art branching out from that). And when done right it added an emotion...

Anybody here ever watched the movie Mickey with Harry Connick, Jr. - Methuselah
I guess the Little League World Series being on reminded me of this movie. It's not the best received movie but I thought it had some high parts. The part about drafting teams really is pretty close to what goes on in youth baseball drafts. And I thought Connick did a decent acting job. It'...

re: I already see a big problem with SECN - Methuselah
The first night it came on I was pretty underwhelmed by the SECN. But I guess anything just starting out has to build up. I saw that the "Ghosts of Mississippi" episode of 30/30 (or was it SEC Stories?) was on yesterday. That was a pretty good program about a time/event I really never looked in...

I"m pretty sure I heard a Tennessee guy on the radio this afternoon saying that Tenn. has completely new starters on the entire offensive and defensive lines. So I think it would be a bit of a stretch they have much of a chance to beat Bama....

Well, in the Marines there is a chance he'll get to grab himself while marching in a circle and rhythmically chanting. So if he likes that kind of thing his choice is simple. [link=(http://youtu.be/4kU0XCVey_U)]This is my rifle. This is my gun.[/link]...

re: LOTR Plot Hole? 6,000 Rohirrim in the 3rd movie.. where were they at Helm's Deep - Methuselah
Yeah. As others have said, it takes time to muster an army in that type of society where all the citizens are spread out working their farms, ranches or whatever. The local lords or leaders have to gather their forces, organize them and then travel to where the king is. Heck, I think everyone was ...
crappie/white perch/sac a lait
That's definitely one. The whole perch / brem / panfish, etc. things probably have more names than just about anything. Oh, and on mosquito hawks - I did a google image search on it and it seemed to show both insects. (As well as some mildly distur...

Words and phrases for the same thing that are different in different places? - Methuselah
Thought about this when I walked outside this morning and saw a "mosquito hawk" and realized how in many (most?) places it is called a "dragon fly". And of course the old "soft drink" "cold drink" "pop" thing is pretty well known. What are some of your favorite phrases or words that are differ...

First you have to recognize what is happening. Your DNA is fricking with you.
