it is not trash. i'm running 2 of them as HTPCS, which is more than what his dad would be running the PC for. If he takes your recommendations he'll be spending 3x the money he would need to for a glorified email/internet box. the only reason for an i7 is if you are a gamer or do video/photo ed...

i see best buy, but my question about over spec'ing still stands. it's a internet machine. it doesn't need an i7. a much cheaper i3 or amd equivalent would be sufficient....

re: cox digital package...is it necessary to rent the digital box? - mchias1
i don't see them ever really drm'ing SD channels. why pirate a crappy resolution or 4:3 program? The drm the HD channels due to quality video that exceeds DVD quality. spock, what do you watch those starred channels on? being MPEG2 what DLNA device can play them? all my DLNA devices are mpe...

re: cox digital package...is it necessary to rent the digital box? - mchias1
When I lived in Georgia I was able convert ALL my recordings to h.264 with my htpc. Now in Baton rouge, I cant convert HBO. All other channels are still copy freely. Use mcebuddy to convert and strip commercials. Then you can watch recorded shows on any device. Just saw the post above, I hav...

re: Transferring movies from laptop to Galaxy tablet - mchias1
did you try moving them by dragging and dropping from your laptop to the tablet? I watch tv shows (h.264) on my nexus with no issues by just moving them as if my tablet was a HDD. i would also recommend something like this [link=(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233649&...

re: Multiple TVs in the same house..pay for Dish/Cox/Direct/Comcast to wire up boxes - mchias1
if you have dish, then they are your best bet for 1 tv. the first STB is free from them. (I think DirecTV may also be). If you want more tv's it can quickly add up. i personally use a HDHomerun w/ cable card. If you have a win7 pc you can watch all the tv you want on it and it's 3 tuners! If...

re: Can I get a Sprint phone to work on Verizon? - mchias1
yup. CDMA technology allows for the carriers to verify the phone over the network. This is why you have to call sprint or verizon to activate a phone and AT&T and T-mobile just have to move the SIM card to activate a phone....

re: Can I get a Sprint phone to work on Verizon? - mchias1
i'm not sure. When verizon went to LTE the required a SIM card to connect to their network. Sprint still uses the network for validation. I'm on Sprint, and I roam on occasion to verizon for voice. That part should work. 3G data should work as well, but 4G won't. With the new unlocking law y...

re: 6mbps vs 25mbps how fast is fast enough for streaming tv? - mchias1
i run tv streaming though my network. MPEG2 channels from COX need 10-15 Mbps. When I convert them to H.264 I want to say they are around 5-6 Mbps. I also keep native resolution of 720p or 1080i depending on channel. I have streamed my H.264 recordings from my house to my laptop and tablet. I...

re: Someone explain rooting to me and tell me why I should do it - mchias1
The main reasons I have rooted my phone: 1) titanium backup - allows you to one click back up and restore your apps 2) WiFi tether - there is some tether apps that don't require root. But I prefer the ones that do Another thing is nandroid backup. Basically a complete backup of your phone. S...
