Handbrake can re encode MKV to MP4, but it takes awhile. I use Subler which remuxes the MKV to MP4. It only takes a few minutes to do a ~4 GB file where Handbrake takes about an hour, depending on your processor speed.
I'm guessing the file size remains unchanged, yes? I use Handb...

As far as which to run; a lot of people run Plex and from what I hear, it just works. I rarely hear of people having issues with it.
I've been running Media Browser which I've liked a lot.
A buddy of mine runs Media Browser AND Plex on the same box, so truth be told, you're not even really li...

Will you be able to put the laptop on a wired connection, or will it be wireless? I'm not sure you'll want to run your media server over a wireless connection. It may work ok over wireless, but in most cases you'd want your server on the wire....
| Tech Board|| re: Where should i have my media server running and which one (plex,XBMC) - LSUDropout on 1/20/15 at 10:12 am|
I would imagine a lot of those devices would be client only devices and would not even be capable of running the server software. You mention running it on the PS3, but I'm not aware of the PS3 having the ability to act as a media server, only a client (perhaps I'm wrong, idk).
Though it may hav...

When he says peer-to-peer I think he just means that there is no dedicated server. It sounds like he is still on a typical switched network.
ETA: A networked XP machine shouldn't have issues communicating with networked Win7 machines, but can you give some specifics about what is done over the n...
| Tech Board|| re: installing windows 8.1 from a usb stick..anyone done this? - LSUDropout on 1/8/15 at 8:41 am|
I just did this recently with Windows 7, I would imagine the process is the same for 8.1 as all you're really doing is creating a bootable USB from an ISO file.
I first tried the windows utility, but I was having issues. I downloaded a tool called Rufus and it worked perfect.

Yeah, your connection to any particular site/service is only going to be as good as the weakest (slowest) link. Connections to different sites/services traverse different paths, and thus different providers.
It is also completely possible, if not likly, that the weakest link may not even be n...

Your battery is about to run out.
Does 8.1 have an option to "Show process from all users" like 7/XP does? If so, you may want to ensure that option is selected as it could be a system owned process utilizing the disk....

The benefit of the space program, from a tax payer perspective, certainly isn't just pride.
