Are you using total returns?
Because the power of compounded, reinvested dividends needs to be accounted for in the buy and hold scenario.
You also need to account for commission costs and the massive short-term capital gains taxes over the time period.

Part of me agrees with you.
On the one hand, if there have been no structural changes to the economy, we should be able to fill that slack eventually as the economy continues to heal. In other words, the growth trajectory should remain the same, despite the fact the economy will tend to oscillate...

After circling back with him, it appears the issues lie with the insurance company. He initially said he was being "billed," but by that I believe he means claims were being processed against his policy.
From what you guys have said, it sounds like he needs to get more aggressive with the insuran...
