re: 1/2 game behind OKC for 8th seed - corndeaux
SAS has an easy first half of march but after that it's sick
We keep waiting for the Spurs. A losing Rodeo trip is unheard of. I think Pop is playing some of that long game after 2 Finals runs, but they just might not have that extra gear any more....
, I hope they limit his minutes.
Me too. Everyone is different, but seeing Durant, Parker, even LeBron start to break down some should be something the Pels keep an eye on. They've been smart about bringing him along. They've been smart in limiting his time v bigger 5s. They've...

Hats off to Ajinca and the coaching/training staff. That he could give legitimate minutes and win a game for the Pels is not something I ever expected. Tremendous job by all parties....
think teams probably have a little more balance in their approach than writers. For writers the numbers are the product. It takes a lot of work to convey the eye test, watching games, creating gifs or screen caps with illustration. The numbers are much easier to access and discuss.
...
Probably more than the advanced stats guys hated the Holiday trade.
Just about everyone thought it was a gamble. It was just so very different than accepted wisdom, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I didn't then and still don't think it was an awful move. What has always bot...
You have no problem making those same assumptions about what the Pelicans do, though
From earlier in this thread
Really, I just want to see a plan, a Pelicans Way. The Sixers are cultish with their devotion to data, the Bulls have been wildly successful using "grit" to ...

+1 The tricky thing is the Pels really don't ever let Davis play the 5. So going small with a Parsons type at the 4 like Houston used to do isn't really an option. So you then need to find another competent big that can guard 5s and stretch the floor to play next to Davis...

The Asik data is tricky because much of that time has been with the likes of Rivers/Jimmer/Salmons. Be very curious to see Cole, Q, Evans with those 2. Another thing this board ignores and MM brought up is that Anderson had limited physical activity for about 9 months. There's no way he's in sha...
I think the SportVU stuff is way more valuable than the advanced stats bull shite that has permeated for years
I agree. Advanced stats are usually just box score stats done on a per possession or per minute basis. Tracking data is a whole new ballgame. I don't know about bullshite,...

I don't even get what you're trying to do here. You believe they are cutting edge, great. I see no evidence of that. That doesn't mean they're dumb or not trying their best to win. And you have no clue why Houston went after Smith or if it was a compromise of philosophy. Why don't you tell me ho...
I just don't believe a group who secretly thinks the game like Charles Barkley would be so quick to point out to the world that they don't
No one is saying they are Barkley. Barkley is a clown. He is very entertaining, but a clown nonetheless. He couldn't be more wrong or mindless...
what AD was going to be
Absolutely. I don't know that many people thought he would ever be this good offensively. If so, then certainly not this soon. If you think Davis is going to need time on offense, it makes sense to find scorers to help him.
Unfortunately, now that...

I saw that TBW piece. They've trended more towards the Green Triangle this year, which is a welcome sign. I don't think they are Philistines. I have no doubt they are doing what they believe is best. And I have no doubt they know more than I do. It's not that they have to be Morey. There's no on...

Fascinating read. That guy did a podcast (r squared, old hickory high now nylon calculus podcast) last spring when he released his book. Very interesting discussion. One thing that might also contribute to the high open % is the low volume of 3s. Many here (and apparently Austin Rivers) have disc...
I don't really know how we will lift the injury curse.
Biometrics. Sixers article by Pablo Torre a week or so ago hit in this. It's more than a little creepy, but they literally monitor everything their players do on the court in practice and a good bit of what they do off. [q...
