re: Good ways to end "Hack-a-Shaq"... - slackster
Like I said before, if the NBA cares about the entertainment factor, they would make a serious attempt to address flopping.
Agreed, but it isn't mutually exclusive with the hack-a-Shaq problem. Why can't they address both?...
I have a problem if they change the rule, but should they change it, that is not a terrible option.
Fair enough. I can live with that. I was pretty resolute about leaving things in place as recently as last year, but for whatever reason, I never thought of or heard anyone...

Oh I've seen it done to the Spurs before, but I simply used them since this thread has focused on the Spurs/Rockets. This "catering to the minority" is comical since this shite has happened to every team in the league at some level. ...
reward the person who got fouled
Would you have a problem allowing the team to decline the FTs and keep the ball instead?...
how are the Spurs being rewarded?
Oh c'mon, if the Spurs weren't benefiting from the strategy, they wouldn't be employing it in the first place. I truly find it comical that so many people are vehemently against giving the team the option to decline FTs. It is the simplest solut...
It's not manipulating the game - it's taking advantage of a weakness on the other team. The Spurs shouldn't be rewarded because they can't play defense
See how easy that is?...

re: Good ways to end "Hack-a-Shaq"... - slackster
FTs were meant to penalize teams for fouls, not reward them. A defensive foul should put the defense at a disadvantage. If SA fouls DeAndre Jordan, and the Clippers choose to decline the FTs and keep the ball, what is the problem?...
that with the pass interference... the game doesn't end either time
Obviously, but in the NBA you don't get the time back, hence the reason teams foul up 3. To make the analogy similar to the NBA, you'd have to remove the untimed down condition in the NFL. Obviously it is an ex...

re: Good ways to end "Hack-a-Shaq"... - slackster
You intentionally commit penalties in football when the DB fouls the receiver knowing he's going to give up a TD otherwise. Pitchers do it in baseball when they hit a batter knowing they are going to give up first base and get ejected.
Sure, which is akin to fouling guys instead o...
That's like saying teams shouldn't be able to run the prevent defense in football to prevent a hail mary because it's more exciting if they get completes more often.
That isn't even close to the same thing and you know it. A football analogy that is close to the status quo in t...
You shouldn't change the game because a couple guys are prideful IMO.
I understand your sentiment, but is declining FTs and just keeping the ball really that big of a change? The current rule is akin to the NFL forcing an offense to accept a 5 yard offsides penalty or a 10 yard...
How would the integrity of the game have been impugned, exactly?
See the post a few spots above yours. The NBA is entertainment. What is more entertaining, the end of the 4th qtr in Game 3 for Pels/Warriors, or watching Curry shoot two free throws and lose by 1? ...

re: Good ways to end "Hack-a-Shaq"... - slackster
Why should a team essentially be rewarded for bashing in to players while making no attempt to play actual defense? I don’t see why forcing teams to actually attempt to play defense during a basketball game is getting so much argument. Why do so many people demand players shoot free throws be...
Then their worth as a player should be diminished and reflected in limited playing time in those situations. Simple as that.
That is fine, but I don't know if that solution is best for the NBA going forward. Perhaps I'm in the minority, and despite the result, I'm glad the Peli...
I just have no words...
I know that proposal is never going to fly, but the idea in the OP is would be a welcomed improvement. As I stated earlier, the fouling at the end of an NBA game is pretty tough to watch - both the hack-a-player and the fouling from teams trying to come b...
It's really not that hard. I can not play basketball for a year, and then go practice for 1 day and shoot at least 75%. I just don't get it.
 Sure, that is the exact same situation as DeAndre Jordan or Shaq. "I can do it, so I don't understand why it is hard" is the equ...
Why couldn't the coach have the option to "decline" free throws for intentional off-ball fouls, and can opt to take the ball out.
I don't understand why anyone would have an issue with this change. It is no different than football coaches declining penalties. Hell, I wouldn't ...
