re: who's worse: elitist snobs, or those who revel in their lack of refinement? - cahoots
The best kinds of people are those who are as comfortable shopping at a dollar store as ordering a martini at commanders. I don't care how poor or rich you are. Learn to adapt to your surroundings and not bitch about it. ...

re: Most Overrated Cities: US Edition - cahoots
Austin does not suck. 1. Bbq from places like Franklin and la bbq is top notch 2. Lots of breweries with great tours and taprooms 3. The east side is interesting 4. Trendy restaurant/bar scene but many are quality 5. Barton springs 6. ACL and good live music, both local and national. Not su...

re: "Covington like up-town New Orleans without the gun-fire" - cahoots
Dude the NS doesn't deserve the racist reputation it gets. Most people are generally accepting. However, if you lean racist, you're probably going to pick a place like mandeville over Nola. And when you add those bad apples up, you get a more racist community. It's noticeable to people who spend a l...

re: "Covington like up-town New Orleans without the gun-fire" - cahoots
Oh come on. I said Nola was MORE live and let live. Not perfectly Kum ba ya in every way. Tell you what. Come hang out with my niece (she's white) and her adopted black children in Nola. Then go with her to the NS. I know it's one small example, but the difference in treatment is incredible. ...

There's no smoking ban or uber debate on the NS because no one actually goes out over there....

re: "Covington like up-town New Orleans without the gun-fire" - cahoots
Nola is just much more live and let live than the NS. When you sell a house uptown, the listing says "near the parade route!" When you live near a parade on the NS you complain and put sticks in your yard so no one an park there. And you certainly don't advertise it in a listing. Differe...

You can have the garden and front porch in most city limits and definitely the burbs. The extra land is a lot of maintenance and expense for a once in a while football game. ...

It's not just about nightlife for me. Cities are usually better places to hang during the day too. Better restaurants, museums, parks, shopping, festivals, etc. The diversity is unmatched....

re: What are the pros/cons of Madisonville, LA? - cahoots
Yeah.. I mean, it's all relative, really. If Covington High existed as is, but were located in Orleans Parish, it would be regarded as a beacon of public education.
Dude, even awful New Orleans schools (e.g. McMain, Karr, Warren Easton) score as well or better than CHS on the state...
Lakeview's median household income is $68,152, and median home price is $398,000. The average sales price in the area is $366,320, according to realtor.com. Seems like something is off
People bought houses immediately after Katrina for nothing before prices rose to the curr...
