Yeah, he fell a few years back and broke some vertebrae and was in a wheelchair, but he's recovered relatively well.

Breach of Faith is the best book I've read on Katrina.
The Great Deluge and City Adrift are both good reads.
The Storm by Ivor van Herding is another good one.

I'd stay in Reforma. Not only is it centrally located to anywhere you'd want to go its a nice area. The Melia and Sheraton are both nice with good locations. Most embassies are near by as well.

Mexico City is great. I usually go twice a year. Have trips planned in July and Nov this year. The people there are great. Mexico City feels like a place worlds away from the US buts only a short flight.

As a Louisiana transplant living in Austin I have a few issues.
It doesn't matter if the speed limit here is higher, there's always traffic, any day any time. And the drivers are terrible.
There are people asking for money. You can't sling a dead cat without hitting a panhandler in Austin.
