| Political Talk|| re: Judge rules Maryland's ban on assault rifles is legal - lsuprof on 8/12/14 at 8:49 pm|
Look, this is why we should have very little confidence in the judiciary. There is no consensus in constitutional interpretation over anything. This judge is a Democratic (Clinton) appointee, so of course she would be predisposed to issue a ruling such as this one. A judge appointed by a Republican ...
| Political Talk|| re: looks like Carson is in - lsuprof on 8/2/14 at 9:07 am|
Just about everything that I have heard about Carson is positive. However, running for president is a waste of time. Oh, he may be able to make a couple of points that get picked up during the campaign, but if the goal is winning the Republican nomination I do not see this going far at all. I say th...
| Political Talk|| re: O'Reilly on Fox is horrible - lsuprof on 7/31/14 at 7:28 pm|
What gets me about O'Reilly is the constant barrage of interruptions. He will not let his guests get a word in edgewise! In the end I have a hard time watching him for that reason....
| Political Talk|| re: If Obama gives executive amnesty to 5 million illegals, do you want impeachment? - lsuprof on 7/29/14 at 6:23 pm|
If Obama gives executive amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants, then he will not be taking care that the laws be faithfully executed. To the contrary, his actions will be designed to go against the faithful execution of the laws. That is certainly reasonable grounds for impeachment.
| Political Talk|| re: Stop Calling Obama a Liberal - lsuprof on 7/28/14 at 9:11 am|
When I read the headline I thought that someone was going to say that he is not a liberal but that rather he is a socialist or progressive or some such designation. The notion that Obama is a"center right puppet of big corporations" is a delusional argument made only by the lunatic far, far left. ...
| Political Talk|| re: Update: RACE CALLED FOR PERDUE --93% reporting, Perdue 50.7%, Kingston 49.3% - lsuprof on 7/22/14 at 9:17 pm|
The two latest polls have Nunn up by 6 and 8 points. However, I am not too worried. This is Nunn's lead at the end of a very contentious primary between Perdue and Kingston. Once the nominee has been selected--and it looks like Perdue is up by a small margin--the Republican nominee can turn his atte...
| Political Talk|| re: Elizabeth Warren's 11 Commandments of Progressivism - lsuprof on 7/19/14 at 4:13 pm|
Of course, most of these commandments are ridiculous. If she believes in science, as she purports to in Commandment #2, she wouldn't be advocating these policies as a means of creating a sustainable society.
The thing that gets me about this is the last item,in which she characterizes the philos...
| Political Talk|| re: Didn't like the Hobby Lobby decision? Look at the follow up decisions - lsuprof on 7/4/14 at 6:02 pm|
This decision was not on the merits of the case. All of the hyperventilation is for naught:
The original story upon which this post was based was so politicized that it left out th...
| Political Talk|| Landrieu strikes out with Obama on Keystone - lsuprof on 7/2/14 at 4:23 pm|
It appears that Senator Landrieu's influence with the president on the Keystone pipeline is not all that it is cracked up to be. ...

Very interesting article by a prominent University of Chicago economist. Kinda hits the nail on the head.......
| Political Talk|| re: Article- 86% off strident conservatives think the poor "have it easy" in America - lsuprof on 6/29/14 at 1:39 pm|
The problem here is with the question wording by the Pew Research Center. I got on the Pew web page and took their survey, which is comprised of a series of paired statements that leave little room for a nuanced middle ground. What Pew needed to do was to give survey respondents a range of choices. ...
| Political Talk|| re: Less than 10% of births are out of wedlock!!! - lsuprof on 6/26/14 at 6:28 pm|
I have not read the book but certainly intend to. My initial reaction to reading the description of the book is that the authors have the causal direction wrong. It is not that inequality that has caused changes in family structure, but rather that changes in family structure have had serious effect...
| Political Talk|| re: Is this the most lawless administration? - lsuprof on 6/21/14 at 11:19 am|
The Nixon administration was pretty lawless, but at least there was a mainstream press that investigated and was able to uncover and publicize that lawlessness. The Obama administration is at least as lawless, but the difference is that the mainstream press is comprised of individuals who for the mo...
| Tiger Rant|| Kevin Gausman pitching well - lsuprof on 6/18/14 at 7:38 pm|
I see that Kevin Gausman had his third straight strong start for the Baltimore Orioles today. He has won his last three starts, allowing only two earned runs in 19 innings. Today he threw six innings of five-hit shutout ball. Overall he is 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA....

[quote]They leap frogged Kathy Mc Morris Rodgers, over more senior and conservative candidates.
Don't be surprised if they do it again.
I think that this is a very plausible potential outcome. Republicans have made a major effort to look for high-quality women congr...
| Political Talk|| re: Eric Cantor loses GOP primary - lsuprof on 6/10/14 at 7:34 pm|
I am stunned, but very pleased, by this turn of events. Cantor never struck me as a heavy-weight, and I always had a sense that he was somewhat of an opportunist and was arrogant beyond his abilities. His recent comments about immigration conveyed an unnecessary "hurry up" approach that got him in t...
| Tiger Rant|| re: If UH wins, we're the home team. If SLU wins, we're the visitors - lsuprof on 6/1/14 at 8:22 am|
Can anyone tell me what the rule is here? The determination of which team is the home team seems so convoluted, but I can't figure out what the rule is....
| Political Talk|| re: MSNBC's Harris-Perry: The NBA is precisely like slavery - lsuprof on 5/26/14 at 5:01 pm|
Making a ton of money? Check.
For someone to make the claim that the NBA is like slavery is terribly disrespectful to the millions of American slaves who had to endure the worst conditions and maltreatment of the slavery era. I would love to hear MHP tell slaves from the pre-Civil War era that t...
