| Political Talk|| re: First Red State: Federal court strikes down Utah's gay marriage ban - lsuprof on 12/20/13 at 9:41 pm|
Mark Levin is right... biggest threat to this country are the men in black - activist judges who do the bidding of the liberal agenda.
This is correct. The judiciary is the biggest single threat to the workings of democracy in the United States. After being a close observer of the...
| Tiger Rant|| re: Iowa vs. LSU in The 2014 Outback Bowl - lsuprof on 12/8/13 at 9:01 pm|
I will be watching and pulling for LSU, with enthusiasm. I am particularly interested to see what Jennings--and perhaps a few other younger players--can do in a real game.
I am a bit disappointed in where we ended up, though. If someone had said to us at the beginning of the year that we would pl...

| Political Talk|| re: General colin Powell calls for Universal Healthcare in America - lsuprof on 12/7/13 at 11:42 pm|
Colin Powell was never really a conservative. He originally supported some conservative positions in military and foreign policy but usually kept his opinions about domestic policy to himself. Once his domestic policy views started to emerge from the shadows, it was quite clear that he is not conser...

| Political Talk|| re: Mary Landrieu's poll numbers down more than 10 points in 6 months. - lsuprof on 11/22/13 at 7:31 am|
The amount of ammunition that Landrieu is giving (or has given) her opponents is stunning. The idea that she is some kind of moderate senator has been belied by her active (and unapologetic)support of the Affordable Care Act and other legislation, appointments, etc, and this culminated yesterday wit...
| Political Talk|| re: Elizabeth Warren: Don’t cut Social Security. Expand it! - lsuprof on 11/19/13 at 7:18 am|
Elizabeth Warren's grasp on reality and reason is highly tenuous at best. In her delusional state she can throw out statements like "you didn't build that" and "let's increase Social Security beyond our ability to pay for it" knowing that they will not be taken seriously--except, perhaps, by the equ...

| Tiger Rant|| re: LSU, the NFL farm team - lsuprof on 11/10/13 at 2:33 pm|
This is an interesting take and in many ways is right on target. Sending our players to the pros is a great thing, but many of the ones who have been taking the plunge are going out too early and will not make it in the NFL. For these players another year at LSU might have made some difference, both...

In no particular order:
Debra Saunders and Megan McArdle have also grown on me over the past few years. Both are very thoughtful with strong conservative leanings. They aren't quite in the first tier, but they are close.
| Political Talk|| re: So miracle happens and GOP wins Presidency and Congress in `16 - lsuprof on 11/3/13 at 9:20 pm|
1. Repeal ACA--this has to be the #1 priority
2. Revise ALL of the terrible behind-the-scenes regulations adopted by the federal bureaucracy during the Obama administration. Many of the Obama executive orders could go as well.
3. Entitlement reform...

| Tiger Rant|| re: Problem at the West Gate - lsuprof on 10/12/13 at 10:04 pm|
I am no fan of Rex's political views, but in this case he is right. It appears that the long wait times at the West gates were nonpartisan. My wife and I got to the stadium at about the same time we always do, and there was a throng of people pressing forward to get into the stadium before the game...
| Political Talk|| re: Face the Nation and the 14th Amendment - lsuprof on 10/6/13 at 12:54 pm|
For those of you mentioning impeachment if Obama uses the 14th Amendment incorrectly: I am sorry to say that there is no way that Obama would be removed from office. It is, I suppose, possible that one could get a majority of the U.S. House to bring articles of impeachment against Obama, but there i...

| Political Talk|| re: Jana King, LSU Gender Studies Major opposes free speech? - lsuprof on 9/13/13 at 9:48 pm|
There are quite a few misguided souls on LSU's campus. Ms. King is entitled to her opinion, as misguided as it is. But imagine if her opinion held sway during the heyday of the feminist and civil rights movements. Her arguments could easily have been adapted by those who wanted to prevent those prot...

| O-T Lounge|| re: Oprah / Racist comment article - lsuprof on 8/9/13 at 2:29 pm|
It seems to me that the more interesting part of the story is that a strong supporter of President Obama is paying 38K for a handbag. I know that these things exist, and while I think that it is a bit obscene to pay 38K for a handbag, in a free society people should be able to spend 38K on whatever ...
| Political Talk|| re: WOW - Oprah compares the killing of Trayvon to the killing of Emmett Till. - lsuprof on 8/5/13 at 4:01 pm|
What I am shocked by is the comment made by Winfrey to suggest that there were millions of lynching victims. Oprah is supposed to be a smart, well-read woman, but this comment is completely divorced from reality. The best estimate of the number of lynchings that occurred in American history is well ...
| Political Talk|| re: Current Congress has only passed 15 new laws - lsuprof on 8/3/13 at 2:13 pm|
Laws can be conservative, moderate, or liberal, so having a lot of laws passed is not necessarily a bad thing if they are the right kind of laws. Under the current configuration of Congress, and with Obama as president, it is likely that most laws passed would be on the left side of the ideological ...

The author of this study, Mark Rank, is an outstanding scholar, and so I have confidence in the quality of the data that he has compiled. However, the 80% figure is completely wrong or, at worst, misleading. The goal of this story is to make it appear that everyone is affected by poverty and unemplo...
