Basically, you can jailbreak it and install xbmc (xbox media center) and stream movies, etc.
You can install weather apps, Pandora, Lastfm, etc....

You can jailbreak apple tv. Similar to the iphone/ipod you can install 3rd party software to stream movies, sports, music, hulu, etc....

The apps will transfer fine. The music will have to manually be copied over to the new computer. Unless you get 3rd party software to extract the songs from your iPad/iPhone/iPod to the new computer.
