re: Do you consider hip-hop/rap "real" music? - MountainTiger
It has form, harmony, rhythm and melody and lyrics
It's pretty light on the melody and harmony though. I agree it's music but I struggle with why one would marginalize 40% of what constitutes music in favor of the rest. I prefer music that has all elements in roughly equal parts. ...

re: The Official MB Prog Tier Thread - MountainTiger
You would consider Roxy Music and Eno prog?
It's debatable but I would. Eno for sure but I could go either way on Roxy. I don't really consider Floyd prog but I'm not going to complain.
The rest of those I either don't know, or don't really like (Cpt Beefheart).
He...
As far as critically derided stuff, I really enjoy the Spin Doctors. I'm a firm believer in the pop band, which is sort of a lost art.
They may be critically derided but there are some good musicians in the Spin Doctors. ...

re: What's the most underwhelming concert you have been to? - MountainTiger
That's really a shame. Been to a lot of shows at Red Rocks and it's pretty rare that a band doesn't get up for that venue and deliver a top shelf show. I've been to a few that were mehtastic but for the most part Red Rocks tends to bring out the best in performers....
Good call. Circle from that album might actually be the better song.
No question in my mind. In fact, it is often the case that other songs on a given album are better than the "hits" from that album....

The Cars at what was then called the Centroplex in 1980 or '81. They played for less than an hour and pretty much just mailed it in. The Motels opened for them and were much better in my opinion. I have to agree about Cowboy Mouth too. When I saw them they played with a lot of energy but Fred is ...
Then the Marshall DSL40C that I posted above is where it's at.
This is a good recommendation. I have an older JCM2000 DSL401 and it's got a great tone and plenty of power. The DSL40C is just a newer version of that one....

re: any opinions on fender's champion 100 amp? - MountainTiger
A watt is a watt. The main differences between a tube and solid state amp are in what happens when they go into clipping. When a tube amp "breaks up" it's pleasant to the ears. When a SS amp clips, it sounds like absolute shite.
Yes absolutely. Someone told me one time not to think...

re: any opinions on fender's champion 100 amp? - MountainTiger
It's solid state, he's going to need much more than 100 watts. You're thinking of a tube amp.
Maybe so. I'd have thought that a hundred watts is a hundred watts but I don't have much experience with solid state amps. I do have a 30 watt practice amp that can be pretty frickin lou...
