re: Student Loan Repayment Options Explained - Feed Me Popeyes
Yeah, that's about what I've found. This from IRS Pub. 970:
To qualify for tax-free treatment, for the cancellation of your loan, your loan must have been made by a qualified lender to assist you in attending an eligible educational institution and contain a provision that all or part of ...

re: Student Loan Repayment Options Explained - Feed Me Popeyes
Currently doing this, and I printed out the IRS publication that mentions it being tax free. I'm almost 95% sure that when it comes time to write it off someone will drop the ball and issue me a 1099. At which point I will take the position it is not taxable and attach a copy of my IRS public...

re: School me on HSAs - Feed Me Popeyes
agree with most of what has already been said - would like to add that HSA contributions are subtracted from your gross income, lowering your FICA taxes. For a typical wage earner, this is one of the only ways to lower FICA. Just another benefit to HSAs...

re: Retiring at 50 - how do you calculate how much you need? - Feed Me Popeyes
I plan to retire very early as well, so I've done an absurd amount of research on the topic. To answer your question, most "experts" will recommend a 4% safe withdrawl rate, or 25 times your expected annual expenses (see: [link=(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinity_study)]LINK[/link]). Out of caut...
My dad is a professional traveler (that's the only way I know how to describe what he does). He guides some. He literally spends at least 9 months backpacking all over the world. re: Family budget question re: groceries/food/consumables - Feed Me Popeyes
If you have Peapod (or similar services) in your area, give it a look. We're saving a bunch with Peapod not because of sale prices, but because it allows for smarter shopping. My wife reports that ordering our food online allows her to compare prices and look things up - to our advantage. By ...
While someone making 100k/yr can't get billionaire wealthy through saving, they certainly can save enough to be wealthy and suggesting they are wasting their time is absurd. re: "Investing" in Uber - Feed Me Popeyes
Ok enough. I understand economics perfectly well and I stated that I already understand the arguments FOR 9-10x surge pricing. Simply put, I believe that level (or even 4-5x) of surge pricing is a short-sighted business strategy in markets where they're competing with services like Lyft, who cap...
